Mexico enacted a controversial law on Thursday decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and other drugs while encouraging government-financed treatment for drug dependency free of charge.

The law sets out maximum “personal use” amounts for drugs, also including LSD and methamphetamine. People detained with those quantities will no longer face criminal prosecution; the law goes into effect on Friday.

portugal did something similar a while back, i think, and it's working wonderfully for them. their crime rate has dropped and their streets have cleaned up. if people get caught with drugs, they are referred to a doctor instead of going to jail. it seems like a good system.

which means the united states will never implement it, we're all about outdated systems with proven flaws.

Finally the world is starting to get some sense.

I know that drugs fuck alot of people up and are horrible on communities but having them illegal does nothing for preventative measures, and only makes it so that the criminals control the drug flow which they in turn use to pay for guns and gang wars.

The world is paranoid about legalizing drugs because of the message it will send but the fact is that drug abuse is a HEALTH issue not a fucking CRIME issue and it should be treated that way by clinics and medical professionals.
