f.lux - nice little app to make your internets experience slightly nicer

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.

F.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.

Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. F.lux will do the rest, automatically.

i've been using this for nearly a month now, and i can testify to its awesomeness. you give it your longitude and latitude, and during the day it gives a slightly blue tint to your monitor when the sun is up. as the sun goes down, it fades it to a subtle warm, peachy tint. it's quite lovely.

7 megs on my system/<1% on a dual-core 2.8ghz box running win 7 ultimate.

that is ac tually a little on the large side RAM-wise, but meh, 4 gigs available and no appreciable addition to boot time...

anywaaay, my eyes definitely feel less tired when i go to bed, with one important caveat - doesn't affect fullscreen games.

this will not absolve your eyes from four hours of WoW.

woah my screen turned into this brownish-orangy thing, but its nice. Still the mouse cursor remains unchanged, which makes it kinda illuminate the whole screen :emotawesomepm9:

and if you stay up all night, you'll get to see it turn into a bluey-grey thing :emotawesomepm9:

i think that might be regarded as off-label use of the application though

This is interesting. I wonder what it'll be like to transition back to the stark white of a normal setup.
