Listening to Black Soul now and it's amazing, probably my favorite so far!

Cock-tease! I doubt I'll be able to get hold of it over here for a while yet. I don't doubt it'll be worth the wait though.

It's more than amazing. I would love to see the setlist.

Dudes on the ST message boards nearly have it squared away already! Looking forward to mine arriving in a few days...

I've been on a slight Madlib phase lately with mostly listening to Quasimoto and Madvillain. With the prolific output by him there is a shitload of stuff to check out. What albums are worth checking out? I got Shades of Blue, but never really gave his other albums a shot.

If you want more of the jazzy tip, grab Yesterdays Universe and Angles Without Edges. More hiphop, grab Med Show #5 first, then Beat Konducta Vol. 0-6 (yes, all of them). From then, just spread out.

Oh man, where to start! Good recommendations so far- You definitely need Jaylib if you don't have that!

On the jazz side, Miles Away by The Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble is right up there with his best imo. Haven't heard it in years, but Shades of Blue is kind of blah as I remember (especially considering having the Blue Note catalog at his disposal).

Shades of Blue is one of my favorite albums. Champion Sound, on the other hand, I consider to be the weakest album that either Dilla or Madlib has released.

edit: And while we're on the subject of Madlib, don't forget DJ Rels. Theme For A Broken Soul is pure magic.

Guest Hanratty

i'm a little behind, but #8 Advanced Jazz is really good.

Best of the mixes so far for sure!

#10 is really good too. not crazy about the other mixes. but the cover art on this series has been excellent.

Ok, going hard here, in no order:

Hip-hop wise:

Beat Konducta Vol. 0-6 (+ the bonus 45s!!!)

Lootpack's Soundpieces

Madvillain (obviously) (+inst)

MMS #3, 5

Champion Sound

The Unseen (+inst)

Jazz wise:

YNQ - Angles Without Edges

Yesterdays Universe

Last Electro-Acoustic blahblah - Miles Away + the Summer/Fall Suites

YNQ - Stevie

YNQ - Bomb Shelter EP

MMS #7, 8

Shades of Blue

Funk/Brazilian:

Jackson Conti - Sujinho

Speto da Rua mix (gorgeous!!)

MMS #2

Sound Directions - The Funky Side of Life (one of the best YNQ-related albums)

Misc:

Madlib - 6 Variations of in the Rain (quite unknown, don't sleep!)

Madlib - Madlib Bonus Beats (one of my favorites)

DJ Rels - Theme for a Broken Soul

Then move on from there!
