Once I told my psychiatrist (a woman) i was listening to electronic music. She immediately asked me if I liked jarre. I told here i thought it was shit. Then i asked her if she was listening to him. She replied "no". *strokes beard*

saw him last night in Manchester which I recorded (audio) then then just recorded the audio from this transmission

good to see him back to form tho I wish he'd bring some new shit out although he still doesn't have a recording contract after the EMI/Oxygene revisited fiasco and he doesn't even own the rights to his original albums after falling out with Sony/Dreyfus :fail:

doesn't john michel jarre just make awful old man pseudo-trance these days? not that i've ever liked a single thing he's ever done mind you....

he made an atrocious album called Teo & Tea' which was a tragic attempt at something commercial to please Warner and was mainly slammed for using presets off a Roland MC-808 however the creator of the presets was credited (or paid) for his collaboration and his last album on Sony 'Metamorphosis' is the most well polished cheesefest you will ever hear

he even had a go at IDM however judging by his recent poor quality solo work I'm assuming he employed the talents of Joachim Garraud just to try and impress Warner at the Printemps de Bourges festival just after he prematurely left Sony

he has done some nice stuff recently like the extensions to Oxygene amongst others which I think is the kind of stuff he should stick to now as he can't be technically ahead of everyone else like he was in the 80's especially next to the featured artists in the forum and he doesn't want to scare away his large (and ageing) fabase with anything radically innovative which as they are only thing thats kept his career going for the past decade

One thing I will give to JMJ's back catalogue is the variation in styles so don't mistake the cheesy token chart topper as the standard for all of his work as a lot of it (mainly the early stuff) was way ahead of it's time and still it holds it's own even today

just got back from this gig with my dad, was quite entertaining watching a man wail out on a buttload of synths for two hours even if it sounded very dated

I don't get the fuss about this guy. Ok, Oxygen or Equinoxe were ok back in the days, but the rest is just a pile of variety crap.

With such means, how can his music still sound so cheap? It's beyond me.

uh wasn't it proved that he was actually the composer of said presets?

he had some involvement with roland at the time but it only amounted to a bunch of free synths for him and a preset on the sh201 for them

cant remember the name of the original preset creator although he was credited on the album and real the truth got out on one of his forums about how JMJ had little to do with the orignal creator straight from the horses mouth which was quickly deleted

anyhowz he's evolved as a proper performer recently and for those who missed it first time round www.jeanmicheljarre.com/101010

'Zoolook' is also a very good (and very strange) album. And I think 'Oxygene 7-13' is actually really great too -I've never understood why it gets dismissed. No.11 and 12 are surprisingly dark and abstract. I wish he did that kind of thing more.

Jean Michel Jarre is the most confusing artist I know. On the one hand, he's produced a lot of junk, but the odd album or track can blow me away when I'm in a receptive mood.

But 'Teo and Tea'... what was going on THERE?
