The Charles Hazlewood All Stars is an ensemble dedicated to improvisation, featuring artists from right across the musical spectrum. From Portishead's Adrian Utley to former Jazz Warriors saxophonist Jason Yarde, from Goldfrapp's Will Gregory to composer Graham Fitkin, the conductor Charles Hazlewood first assembled the band to play Glastonbury in 2008. Terry Riley's seminal A Rainbow in Curved Air is one of the great psychedelic experiments, a barrage of skirling organ loops which exploded out of his San Francisco studio in the late sixties. Hazlewood and his All Stars take the work as a starting point for a serious sonic adventure; a performance that will exploit to the full the magnetic intimacy of the Bristol Old Vic.

Now also featuring Squarepusher.

Its their second show with Tom in the line up. They already did one with at Glade this year. Potential for new Shoba Members/Guests? :emotawesomepm9:

Statement from conductor Charles Hazlewood:

"Tom (Squarepusher) & I have been looking for a while at the right collaboration, and we've decided this is it. My All Stars are all serial sonic adventurers: all brilliantly open minded musicians who like nothing better than to be playing together when there are no rules. The only starting points here are the textures & accents of Riley 's extraordinary originals; where we take them is in the lap of the gods. Each All Star is a virtuoso improviser, so it's completely natural that Squarepusher should join us - himself a fearless bravura bassist. And if you think of the worlds that the various musicians bring with them: Adrian's dark Portishead sound, Will's electric Goldfrapp symphonies, Jason's acidic jazz, Graham's driving, almost ADHD loops, Andy Sheppard's unmistakeable, almost edible sound, and add Squarepusher's 10,000 rpm freefall, then it's a uniquely heady brew...every bit the avant-garde supergroup!"
