England/Spurs looking for managers - discuss here...

I don't really want Harry to manage the national team. Until the NotW went under I was pretty sickened to see him slagging off Capello and essentially begging for the job in his column every Sunday.

But if him getting the job effects Tottenham's season in a bad way and Arsenal sneak into fourth place then I'm all for it. England won't get past the first knockout stage anyway. As usual.

Jose Mourinho will not leave Real Madrid mid season, in either case. He's having a good season and Real will match any contract offers he might have. I'd say Harry Redknapp gets England and Tottenham make a move for a domestic based manager.

As soon as there are penalty shootouts.

Put us against any team in the Top 10 and we won't even manage a draw.

It's a shame Gus Hiddink is 25-1, I'd definitely have him. A shame that everyone is spouting the 'has to be English' crap.

This.

Harry is doing a good job at Spurs but if he manages England he will select people like Lampard just because he is family.

Spurs' season wrecked because of "Harry for England" speculation, Woy gets the England Job, Spurs stuck with Harry for another season.

LOL poor old Harry getting what he deserves for evading taxes.

Only in England would people prefer 'Arry to Woy.

I'm pleased with Hodgson, I like him as a coach and manager and I think Liverpool was his first real failure. He's tactically sensible, stern but supportive, and after his Liverpool experiences I reckon he'll look to let the yoof express themselves and won't lean too heavily on the golden generation

lol yeah , i can already imagine ..

England in the final against Spain, game is 2-2 just seconds to go, Konchesky intercepts a pass from Iniesta , the counter attack begins .. dribbles his way past 4 Spanish players, has a clear chance to shoot from outside the area .. and does .. 30 yards GOAL!! konchesky wins the Euros for England!!!

Grant Holt top scorer!! A unknown bald player that resembles Christian Poulsen wins Man of the Tournament award.

Woy Hodgson knighted, Liverpool fans weep over what could have been ...

It's a worry that the press, public and most importantly the players were already preparing to see Harry as England coach.

Roy is a great manager who deserves a shot at the job, but I can't help but think the players (most likely Chelsea and Spurs contingent) will feel let-down by his lack of man-management and ability to deflect the press.

We all love Roy, but it's a kind-of poisoned chalice because Harry was so sure to get the job. 'Arry in 2014, then.

It's a doddle of a job - there's no expectations. England could go 0-3 in the group stages, Roy says "i didn't have a chance to work with the team I wanted to build", everyone goes home after having banged a few Ukranian hookers and a bit of a larf, bob's your uncle, job done and the only fall out is ashley cole comes down with a bad case of the clap.* Harry would be a fool to take it now, be much better to take over after the Euros.

*Whether he got it from a hooker or from bumming JT is up in the air.

Oh yeah, Harry won't take it as a second-choice now. And Roy won't give up the opportunity because 'everyone wants Harry so much'. You'd be an idiot to turn down the highest possible managerial role for an English coach.

It's Roy, and it's a decent choice, but I don't think the press or players are going to get behind him (or certainly not with as much confidence as they would with Harry).

Maybe he and the team don't need a wave of national euphoria to get them through the quarter-finals (our realistic goal), but with Capello's sacking coming so soon before a tournament it was kind of agreed by everyone that England needed a quick fix to get them through and an emotional choice like 'Arry would have the same effect as Venables in 1996.

I'm happy with Roy, but I don't expect a lot of England anyway. Harry in 2014, make a bet now.

Hodgson's career is pretty stunning in terms of the names and stature that he has managed, but less convincing when looking at his winning percentage.

Notably more succesfully than Harry though (albeit with 20yrs extra experience).

In recent history Roy took little old Fulham from the first stage of the Europa League qualifying rounds to the final!, and on his way to the finals beat teams like Juventus and Hamburg, thats fucking impressive i don't care what anybody says. That campaign is enough reason to give him the job.

At least the vicar has actually won a european cup ;)

As I said - roy is decent, but that's it. I don't think harry would be much better tactically, but he's probably much better dealing with the players.

Indeed... most experienced English manager vs most high-profile but down-to-earth English manager.

I'd go with experience. I hope Spurs don't start winning again though.
