The Babe movies are great! Marley & Me was actually pretty good. I read the book and that was much better.

As far as my favorites that haven't been said...

This was a French-Canadian film (La guerre des tuques) I saw when I was a kid. It's all over-dubbed in English.

Its speculated that a ton of cats were killed in the filming of Milo and Otis. One source suggests at least 27. I'm not sure about these animal movies.

Babe 2 pig in the city is fucking excellent, i liked it a lot better than part 1. The bear is great too, watching a bear trip on amanita muscaria and hallucinate things in clay animation is always welcomed by me. The spiritual sequel made by the same guy 'Two Brothers' is also pretty decent if you like the Bear check it out, basically the Bear but with white tigers.

Milo & Otis was really amusing when I was 8 years old and couldn't differentiate between filmed fiction and animated fiction (it's all just a movie, right mom?), but it's impossible to watch it now without concluding that the movie is pretty much a fucking animal snuff film with extremely careful cutting away before, eg, a fucking bear kills a dog or a snake kills a cat or... well, you pretty much see the filmmaker throwing a terrified kitten off a goddamn cliff and another goddamn kitten actor taking its place after the first one is shown drowning.

But surely Japan of all places would ensure that no animals were harmed merely to amuse --oh, shit.

Edit: The Bear, on the other hand, is actually pretty harrowing, but clearly made with a great deal of caution and respect (and training, and animatronics, and supervision). It's a beautiful movie and it's very emotionally involving without pandering in the style of M&O.

great thread, though I don't have really much to add except that Babe movies (mainly the first one) are nostalgia fuel to my soul and probably the last thing I'll do before I die is to watch that movie again and die happy.

the original land before time kicked ass

Had to read this middle school, holy fucking shit. Both the book and movie are way underrated. Many of the other movies above were well worn VHS' around my house a kid. Here are some others I really like:

^Channel 4 made a good tv special of this, same guy who wrote The Snowman.

Any animal scenes from Studio Ghibli films.

Still need to see Dog of Flanders (1975), Hachi: A Dog's Tale, and War Horse. Caught Bolt (2008) on tv and it wasn't half bad.

i saw this when i was really little, check this scene out

pretty fucked up film but pretty good too

It's very good, but (I think I said this a few days ago in another thread for some reason) I can't watch PD anymore. It fucks me up too much. Makes me want to hug all teh puppehs, but mostly my own departed rescue puppeh who I grew up with and can't hug anymore, until I start bawling in an embarrassing and undignified manner, etc.
