ryancolecreate
I generally really like modelled type synths, and this one looks amazing. I'm really considering buying it even though it's more than I would normally spend on a softsynth. I'm still pissed I missed that Tassman sale a month back. Anyways: http://www.applied-acoustics.com/chromaphone/overview/ The flexibility seems pretty amazing.
th555
Sounds very nice, especially the melodic marimba/kalimba/harpischord things. The interface also looks really intuitive for a physical modeling synth. edit: gonna try the demo now http://www.applied-acoustics.com/chromaphone/trial/
ryancolecreate
ya I'm gonna try it out tonight. Looks great. I think I will just follow them on twitter for a while though as they periodically have crazy sales.
mcbpete
For me it's this demo that's the most interesting, seems like it can do an awesome range of stuff. Very temped indeed - Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio tag http://s3.amazonaws.com/aas_sound/Chromaphone/DJChampion-Grandma.mp3
kcinsu
Yeah I came across this a few months ago and downloaded the demo. I really really like it. Once I have some spare cash, I'll be grabbing it! I know Robbie likes it a lot too, we were discussing it.
ryancolecreate
ya it looks sweet. Only thing I kinda don't like is that it's mono timbral. If you could run like 4 or 5 different sounds at once it would be ace. As it is now it's not really a drum synth, but more setup for pitched percussion type stuff. That said all you'd need to do is run several instances at once.

awepittance
overall i'd give it a B. It's nice to have a phys mod instrument dedicated entirely to percussion, my only complaint with it is it seems to be lacking in good drum kit ranges of sounds. The best sounds in it are sort of one-hit micro tonally transposed same drum hit sounds. I havent checked any of the new library updates, but when i got it i was hoping it would have sort of a full ranged normally tranposed kick, snare, tom, hat kind of setup. If it does i must have totally missed it the VL1 and sculpture still run circles around it. The best thing released by applied acoustics that sounds imo 99% realistic is the guitar plugin they put out about 7 months back, i had my friend who is a virtuoso piano player use it and the recordings i made sound pretty indistinguishable from an actual live flamenco guitar soloist and in case anyone is wondering, im still phsyical modeling my dick off every night. I have a rig going right now which effectively gives me a one-click random acoustic tribal music song. Last night i did an hour long Tibetan Buddhist ritual using the G2 (which has a lot of nice overlooked phys mod patches) , 2 x VL1 (poly-chained via a custom made reaktor ensemble, thats right it's now a quasi VL-2!) kyma's harm visser pugins + sculpture with a full preset randomizer i made in reaktor. ganus
not a big fan of the shiny bell sounds, but the stuff that uses filtered noise sounds brilliant
Guest RadarJammer
anyone else check out the FX version of Reaktor's Prism? It uses a modal bank instead of the sine bank which brings a new dimension to physical modeling I don't think i've seen anywhere else.
awepittance
havent tried that yet, will tonight. i use a lot of other physical modeling stuff in reaktor but im mostly working with INS files lately, i tried turning prism and spark into INS but the interfaces got all screwy and i lost all the presets, maybe i should try importing ensemble. I just never work in reaktor using only one instrument/ensemble at a time

awepittance
amazon are you making a request that i make a song reminiscent of traditional music of indigenous cultures in the amazon? because ill randomly generate the shit out of that with physmod. Also sorry about the lack of response to your pms, i am really bad with watmm pming. email me or something peterjacksonits AT gmail

Fair enough. I should also mention that I don't really care if things sound realistic. :)
jeyemusik
I got a spam email about Chromaphone at half price here: http://www.pluginboutique.com/products/218-Chromaphone In case some of you are still mulling that one over. I'm not so fussed as I've been enjoying Prism for that sort of stuff lately (space echo'd and layered with really muted Minimoog bass (neither real, just emu's) and it's the absolute business). mcbpete
Good call - it was enough of a reduction for me to pick up a copy. I'm a little overwhelmed with it at the moment and am just hitting random on the Buzz VSTi loader until it makes a noise that's audible but doesn't explode my eardrums (a lot of the time the random buttom produces variations a little too wild for my brain !). Seems good though - look forward to learning it !
mcbpete
p.s. The company have just released String Studio VS-2 which does for string physical modelling that Chromaphone did for percussive modelling (i.e. takes the initial physical model and lets you run bat shit insane with it): It's half price till the start of July so will cost only $99 (or 60 quid) - https://www.applied-acoustics.com/string-studio-vs-2/
th555
That guy is really enjoying himself. I think I'm gonna buy it. Looks like it's only really for plucked strings, not bowed..?
th555
By the way, this thread got me playing with Chromaphone again, and you can make quite a bit of string sounds with it.
mcbpete
Which version of Max is that ? That trade seems rather one sided towards the purchaser which makes me question whether those two serials you're offering are legit or not ? Are you sharing those serials or transferring them ? If they *are* legit series for trade head to the marketplace on KVR, you're more likely to get a fairer trade ...
ceiling
Well I don't use Max MSP at all so I'm really not too fussed, purchased It about 2 years ago student discount version. If It wasn't the student version I would try and sell It on but I read on their website they don't allow for resale of the student version, so it seems the only option for me is to just trade the serial number with something else. Synplant is completely legit, the licence is in my name which can be clearly seen by anyone who uses my serial number. I don't really know my way around KVR but I'll have a look into It. But yeah the offer is still there for anyone if you wanna PM me. Like I said I haven't used max basically since they day I got it and a trade for a chromaphone serial seems decent enough for me. The version I have is Max 6.1 Also I wasn't offering both, It was either Synplant or Max. And I would be sharing the serials not transferring them. Braintree
$99 for this is a pretty good deal. I might go for it.
ceiling
I'll be willing to give someone the Max MSP Serial and they can check that It works first. I'd be putting a huge amount of trust In you to do the decent thing and give me the chromaphone 2 serial In return. It would be a simple sharing of serial numbers, not a transfer of licence.
