  1. i was surprised to find the outer narrative was a disinfo conflict between the politician and oppenheimer. nolan juxtaposed info conflict with nuclear war and showed that the info domain has power over the nuclear domain. it's an important point. trumpists overthrowing democracy would have international consequences. with the us military in the hands of a fascist regime, it would be a matter of time before that started to get pretty dark. that dystopia could be brought about by bad info spreading. agreed about belew
  2. yes and i am here for it. very solid catalog.
  3. they're not all corrupt. geeks like me who spent their lives learning the lay of the land, with media spins, and familiarizing with journalistic methods, are able to have a good sense of what's real. many politicians are not corrupt. it's easy to confuse people, though. running for office costs money. that's how it's easy to confuse people about anyone. "hey look! they take money! they're corrupt!" please, people, get past this, and try to pay closer attention. "they're all corrupt" is the message from the rightist media that panders to covering for the deeply corrupt national GOP. they're literally out there trying to make the left look corrupt so that the right won't look so bad. they want you to not pay close attention. they want you to think "it's all the same, it doesn't make a difference, they're all liars, they're all corrupt." this is the objective. and it's obviously false. you could run. canvas your town for a year and you can be elected mayor. do a good job for two years and you can run for state office. do a good job there and you can run for governor. etc. please don't let fantasies pedaled by agencies and foxish news outlets snuff out free society. the deluge of bad info we're drowning in is a real threat. the best solution is for individuals to take responsibility for not being full of shit. here, i'll give you a mystic secret. it's from socrates. know when you don't know. this is an elemental step toward being able to navigate in a hazardous information environment.
  4. anyone interested in the sociological transformation that is occurring with the explosion of information technology, especially the impact on people's beliefs, should really be following the Pod Save America podcast called Offline. it's a podcast series about this frontier of society that we are still in the process of understanding.
  5. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20231025-if-alien-life-is-artificially-intelligent-it-may-be-stranger-than-we-can-imagine bbc just jacking my posts from here, years ago. good article though and good outline of what just seems like the obvious conclusion: matter sprouts life which sprays ai out into the galaxy. ufos would be way more likely to be billion year old alien ai with unimaginable minds, than organic. there's no reason to think we shouldn't expect this stuff would be out there. we should. it's just math and common sense. other planets got billion year+ head starts on us. just one billion years advance on us would be more than enough time to populate the galaxy with ai. i like how this article just goes all out and describes how in a few hundred years humans may transition to a post-darwinian evolution and migrate consciousness to synthetic bodies. and the alien ai could be singular integrated consciousnesses rather than communities of individuals.
  6. the bulwark is doing some of the best stuff these days, and they're conservative
  7. biden is quite great. a lifelong public servant who always avoided corruption. after decades in congress, he was famous for being poor. the money biden has made has been from his book. don't buy the horse shit
  8. the walls are finally starting to crumble. this georgia case looks like it will get there it's looking bad for the dorito. hard to imagine him pleading, himself. which means we'll likely see televised testimony from powell and whoever else flips. will be wild. and this means new evidence that can be used in the federal case, if i'm not mistaken, which was already apparently a very solid case. i'm hearing that the likely republican presidential nominee for 2024 may be sentenced with time by the election.
  9. this requires the other side to actually listen though. seems to me we're passed that point. there is the side of logic/common sense/decency, and there is the other side starring back angrily with fingers plugged in their ears. society has become far more immature after social media started. i know what you mean. you've got to assess on a case by case basis whether and how to engage. definitely some people at some times are dangerous and should be left alone. and some people are toward the dense and hopeless end of the spectrum. one thing about brainwashing is that it can be a step on the way to war. you say "seems to me we're past that point" and this the reasoning in the minds of people who become willing to resort to deadly violence. this is a really unfortunate place to be in. we should keep this is in mind as a motivator to find opportunities to move the ball forward where we can. you don't have to win each battle with each person, it is enough to just move the ball forward some amount. and really this is the better approach, which is recommended when dealing with cult members: not too confrontational. ask questions and sincerely listen. sharing a single piece of information can help. especially if it is relevant, significant, and well supported. try to find a piece of information that the person would find interesting. some things are just interesting, and not too objectionable, but can help people think in a better direction. debate only works if the other side is mature enough to reply back with a take that is rooted in reality. the maga tribe have all completely lost touch with the real world, thanks to FB/twitter/Fox news and con man don filling their heads with non stop BS over the years. also, gotta be careful about crossing the streams of politics/religion. doing "gods work" is what the red hats all say trumpo is doing. IMO it's this type of thinking, i.e. believing to be acting on behalf of an imaginary omniscient eye in the sky, that causes more bad deeds to occur on this planet than good. i say doing god's work jokingly, and as a way of saying that this is the frontline, and this is where the work of improving society occurs. i say it's unfortunate that we're forced to debate because it is so difficult and painful. and yeah in some cases it's not appropriate. and i am talking about a very large time frame. we are in a 100 year crucible. it's important to remember that the more conflict we can resolve through debate, the less conflict energy will manifest as force. Tribalism is the intentional result of wedge politics and the "culture war" (divide and conquer by agitprop). certainly people are being played against each-other. there is no doubt about this. existing fissures in society are exploited. prigozhin's Internet Research Agency easily manipulated americans with things like racism
  10. yes, brainwashing is real, and it is wild to see if you give someone a piece of information they didn't have before, you can help. try to figure out which piece of information they'd take the best. unfortunately, we're forced to debate. jumping into the fray is doing god's work
  11. sidney powell, trump's kracken lawyer, flipped. plead guilty to six counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with performance of election duties.
  12. not much bigger chorus than closer. 94, year before he said that. like mentioned above, he was on the remix album for the same album (downward spiral / further down the spiral)
  13. pretty curious "wrote" could mean contributed to composition. someone get the top 40 from 90 - 94 and paste them here nin closer?
  14. these people in hamas believe narratives, narratives we've all seen people spread
  15. enabling the fascists in US government is something musk will continue to use his assets for and, the information plague has not yet reached its peak. recent advancements in large language models (chatgpt) mean increased effectiveness among posting operations.
  16. us gov has more. they released a small fraction of what they have. recently the USG has dropped the stigma and started seriously studying the phenomenon, it seems. just in the last month NASA joined the effort, which is huge. hoping that 5 - 10 years of real scientific scrutiny may yield significant insight. i think we're due to receive more reports in the future with further info.
