  1. I'd be lying if I didn't say Crowded House - Dreamers are Waiting Intriguer was a long time ago now, and they are my second favourite rock band. Won't be AOTY or anything, well past their peak, but hoping for something solid.

    UFO'S

I could imagine water towers with Xmas lights resembling a UFO
  3. Yeah where I am in Australia I've seen ONE person wearing a mask since the pandemic began. Been very chill where I am. Nearest case was still a few hours away. (not to say people shouldn't wear masks, please do, I've just been fortunate, and seldom left the house during that April-June initial lockdown period)
  4. This is legendary, unparalleled among ae's non-album work. Your place in ae folklore is assured, and deserved.
  5. Thinking back, I'm pretty sure I went to a (small) wedding on 4/4/08. Didn't drink, as I'd just had a frightful thermonuclear hangover on Easter Sunday two weeks earlier and had (briefly) sworn off the stuff. My purchase date for Quaristice on iTunes was 4/21/08, so I was still a few weeks from realising they had a newie out. Don't think I got my own personal internet connection until Feb 2008, so probably just missed the release and then came across an interview with that sand dune picture in April.
  6. FYI Auzzies, got my PLUS CD yesterday. I'm saving that and a few other used ebay CDs in mail for bday/xmas though. Too close to silly season to unwrap lol. Even from mine truly.
  7. Between this and that new RA.mix from Roza Terenzi...sucks to be my neighbors! Thanks IOS, digit, even jules, dale. You made it happen. Boyz wud b rapt
  8. Some of Britney feels like a core influence. You could date it back to In the Zone, but more along the likes of Blackout and most especially Femme Fatale. The latter's producer combination of Max Martin & Dr. Luke (serving Britney's typical sound) feels like a 2011 basis that something like hyperpop (or wevs) evolves from. Right around the time when dubstep and EDM were pervasive, very producer-driven and that provoc-aesthetic she had going for a while. You can imagine a subsection of Britney fans a decade ago being hyperpop curious.
  9. PC Music, bubblegum bass and deconstructed club are sort of the way we’ve known it. The recent label of glitchcore/hyper pop is a sign this this now become very recognisably sceney (ala dupstep, vaporwave/chill wave, emo, trap, etc.). It does feel pretty representative of the times and a logical tangent which will probably be looked back on with equal affection and embarrassment as something that needed to happen for a little while and did some cool things amidst a lot of dated junk.
  10. Charli XCX is fantastic, already a pop legend at 27 afaic. Some of the others like SOPHIE, 100 gecs, recent Arca, etc. aren’t really my kind of thing (as standalone artists anyway, they have their moments or collaborative worth). More the Gen Z anime avatar newly-LGBTIQ type scene. It’s exciting and inspiring for some I guess. I’m happy it exists, just over there please, and not too loud, y’know
  11. That’s a bit strange. Must be a Victoria thing with recent easing restrictions. My CD took forever, a few weeks, and still arrived in remote Queensland around Melbourne Cup day. PLUS I’m expecting to be mid-Dec.
  12. Crowded House - Time on Earth (14 years) 4th album in '93, had one of the most iconic breakup concerts in '96, Neil Finn does a few good solo & Finn Brother albums, Hester dies in '05, then the band eventually reunites for a strong '07 return. "Genuinely great" might be pushing it, but it slots in, doesn't shame the legacy in any way.
  13. South Australia in a 3 day hard lockdown. Record? Some dude’s misleading cluster contact tracing info compelled a 6 day hard lockdown, which on being re-examined was resolved and lead to an early mark.
  14. 1. How I'm Feeling Now (XCX) 2. Fetch the Bolt Cutters (Apple) 3. PLUS 4. AE_Live 2016/2018 5. Dark Hearts (Annie) Best singles: Girl of My Dreams (Donny Benet); Impact (SG Lewis, Robyn & Channel Tres) Best EP: LS16 (exm) & Wasted Youth (Diana Gordon) were aight Best debut album: Made for This (JK-47) Best chart hits: Say So & Supalonely
  15. I feel sorry for anyone in the media right now spending 24/7 talking about this or that glacially moving count. Especially foreign media. Recipe for insanity.
  16. I just think people instinctively follow the bully. Anyone with a disregard for truth or empathy finds the bully appealing to get behind. Narcissists. Lackeys. Simpletons. Abdicate responsibility. Bullies generally appear to get their way and wield influence, so maybe some survival genetic trait going on there, makes them resemble ‘natural’ leaders. Biological, social, privilege and mentality aspiration. We’re animals afterall.
  17. "Greetings friends, this is the time - Keeping Up? by Darren Cross has been let free into your ears, hearts and minds. My first purely electronic album since 2008, made on obsolete computer, drum machine and OSX 10.8.5. Created during the second half of this Covid weirdo year, this album is nostalgia inducing, #lofi tranquility-#VHS fuzziness that pangs off unknown memories. I was spending a lot of hours at once creating this music...a lot of the time the magic was happening around 12:30-3am - that space when you are so tired but not sleeping..conscious lucid plonking i call it ? anyhoo thats probably why this album has a weird vibe- a weird year. I put down the acoustic guitar for the first time in 3 years [D.C Cross] and without going into the heavy parts of the story- grief was all around..so i slipped back into old electronic computer music i loved from the 90's. Keeping Up? has a similar vibe to that 90's electronic space but you can tell it was created this year- this September..there is just something about it- the muse dragged me along for a woozy ambient ride and the result is here for you all to enjoy. A #bandcamp exclusive, thats the only way to fly these days for truly independent music creators. I kept the album at $12, which I think is fair. So drop the drum machine roll and heres the link https://darrencross.bandcamp.com/ There is a 1 minute demonstration video and sound byte on the bandcamp page to wet your whistle, give you a taste of the album. Please use the hashtag #darrencrosskeepingup on socials if you would like to share the #lofi love. Until next time, Darren X." Very nice stuff, ambient with a hypnagogic/bit vibe, could imagine it going down very well stoned. As per usual, a hidden track with your download. Only digital bandcamp this time.
