All three parts are fantastic! Though to be fair to the thread I'd consider those ambient techno, as opposed to strictly ambient... i love this album, along with "waist deep seas of milk". and brian, your "cursive light" album is beautiful as well. hardcore ambient. my favorites have to be: koda - movements early stars of the lid and most of hakobune's albums Thanks a lot man. David's WDSOM is definitely up there for me as well but something about Orchids just does it every time. And yeah, that NASA stuff is incredible. Still continues to amaze me at how musical and accessible it is, considering the source.

It's all guitar-only stuff on Music For Nitrous Oxide, Ballasted and Avec Laudenum. I personally think this was their best period, I don't really subscribe to the band's sound once strings came into the picture. Considering you enjoy that though, you may find the earlier stuff too "dry"...at least some people do. This is basically my story too. I found a used copy of this version in a local CD shop back in 2000 or so, and bought it just because of the rad artwork. Upon going home, smoking up and pressing play, my mind couldn't handle it. To this day I still hear new things in the mix!

It doesn't get much better than Desktop Robotics, esp. that "Extra Life" bonus 12"...I think those three tracks are some of his best stuff. Module 2, Program 11 and so on are also so so great. Everyone here is on the right track.
