  1. One of my three top favourites! They were amazing live too! A friend of mine told me Katie Jane Garside was doing heroin at the time, which I never suspected

  3. Possibly my fave selfie to date.. who needs facial feminisation surgery when you have lighting, makeup and the right angle? Well me but still, I like the pic
  4. DJ Self help book DJ Shelf DJ Coat
  5. All I play, all the time, is Binding of Isaac, I really need to play something else, can anyone recommend something in the vein of the Longest Journey or Discworld?
  6. And so imaginative too - like, the changes on the levels inbetween - having areas that use only space to create feelings - the different endings, the areas, the ways to interract with the environment - so cool!
  7. just watched this the other day, it's awesome, such a secluded niche of creativity!
  8. Laibach - Life is life Queen Adreena - Jolene Melvins - Buick Mackane
  9. I guess it's further on the spectrum than like cock ver 10 or something, but I wasn't really giving a definition, just saying what adjectives come to mind when I think of pop, other than formulaic. I've really enjoyed some purely pop songs, in the right moments, and like NIN is definitely more poppy than TG or something, like it's really obvious on "with teeth" which I don't really like, but it's less pop than Rihanna or something I'm a bit lost though, not sure what we actually disagree about apart from the definitions of words
  10. Oh got ya, so for you pop means formulaic.. to me I guess it means memorable, catchy, melodic, accessible, structurally simple - but I guess the easiest way to be accessible is to be formulaic, yeah
  11. Do you mean the profound versus pop within one artist or between different artists? tbh not too interested in the money, just whether the music is good I don't think pop elements in music have to be superficial, or that harsh sounds are necessarily profound
  12. I'd like to hear more discussion about the value of the devolution into pop - like, I loved NIN at the time, and now I listen more often to stuff like TG or NWW, but I feel like having some relatability helps create an access point, while at the same time, you kind of lose the original essence of the thing. It makes me wonder as well, like what is the functional value of stuff like TG? Like, it evokes curiosity, dread, horror, but I wouldn't exactly say it's "fun" to listen to, which at the time NIN definitely was... I'd never heard music with any of those kind of textures, or which had such a grimy/broken aesthetic.. I feel like there's something to be said for something which balances accessibility with hostility or ambivalence to the listener. I dunno, just my 2p worth.
  13. Does anyone else find music unlistenable when on LSD? Maybe on a low dose it would still be relatable, but I found that I couldn't distinguish emotionally between the music and all the other unfamiliar sensations Also, this happened on my phone, so I think talking about this is giving the website flashbacks
  14. Enjoying "Vals pa moln", very dreamy and gothy melodies If I had any suggestion, it would be to introduce more personal elements - possibly some voice parts or field recording type samples from a personally related environment - just something to give the emotions a bit of context - sometimes I find that helps to stimulate my imagination
  15. The explanations of our interest in harmony and rhythm remind me of the feeling I sometimes got in my functional neurobiology class, where I initially doubted the explanation because it intuitively seemed like post-hoc rationalisation, but I bet if I read more studies there'd be a lot of evidence for the theories presented
  16. I would recommend watching it all, some unique emotionally compelling stories in there for sure
  17. Watched all of This is England from the film to the end of the series - I love it so much, but god I forgot how often it makes you cry, and how hard to watch some of the scenes are.. Then watched the Virtues, a Shane Meadows thing I hadn't seen - I don't know what the difference is exactly, but he handles those sort of traumatic experiences completely differently from most drama I see - there's a depth of understanding there that feels hyper realistic - like the characterisation of the people Joseph and Dinah meet in the final encounter - so spiteful, but also just kind of damaged pathetic monsters. Again, not easy watching, and less fun scenes than This is England, but worth watching for sure. Dinah's violence was so curiously humorous, most of the time Not a perfect series, but they really captured some kind of vibe. A shame they didn't build the world even further
  18. pretty weird, not Rick and Mortyish at all, but entertaining.. always found it interesting how much Hiroshima influenced anime, like especially Akira
  19. If a friend made it, I think I would like it and think it was really cool that they had made it, but because it's Autechre, you can't help comparing it to what they did later
