Pretty sure I read somewhere they were going to wrap up the label after binary runs out.- 55 replies

Yes. Love The Axe.

Four listens in and I can say that this is his most consistently good solo album. Really high production values too. I’d be curious to know how much of a hand Godrich had in it.

Almost sounds like a lost Gescom track.

Just realized the bonus track “Ladies and Gentlemen...” is “Two Feet Of The Ground” from recent live shows. Great tune to close out the album (but peeved it’s not on cd).

Yeah I’d take another whole LP in this style.

Piano breakdown after 4:15 in Twist is legendary. Song breaks down Four Tet inspired techno into the Amnesiac lost track you didn’t know you needed.

Listen 3: This is some of his best work. Simple, yet layered and atmospheric. Poignant; yet at peace with its lot in life. And those beats.
-
Runawayaway is a damn good techno track. Sounds like something Underword has been putting out recently.
-
Really? I love Twist. One of his better rhythmic solo tracks.

I can tell that this will be a grower, like most of his stuff is to me. Really enjoying the journey that this is taking me on at the moment. Twist, Knots, Not The News are immediate standouts, but sure this’ll change. Really lush production also- I’m sure Godrich’s Influence really helped.

Agreed. “Cavernous” could really describe the whole release.

Thanks! edit: oh wait, unavailable ?

Sounds Venus no 17-esque to me, but either way I’m pumped for a release of this stuff. It has also also inspired me to start up a Squarepusher binge — I haven’t really listened to any of his stuff since Damogen came out. Forgot how much I love Music is Rotted...

2nd listen through (minus expectations)....loving the creepy/funky vibe (as someone mentioned previously). Going back to the Old Tunes tapes, I’m finding a lot in common. Many of the looped samples on these tapes clearly come from the same lineage as Societas. Pitched down Trapped being the most obvious example, but most of the others also pull from similar weird pop tunes. The influence is clear on the Warp releases as well obviously — but Societas +Old Tunes makes so much sense.

Yeah thanks, man! Very old school hip hop in places...I dig.

WELL worth the wait. Brian rewriting the acid playbook. Many more listens to soak it all in needed...but easily an AOTY contender so far.
