  1. Havana syndrome back in the news. American personnel have been victimized. Survivors say that a foreign power is coordinating these attacks, but the federal government insists that no, this is not some Havana syndrome, it is rather a few cases of 'anomalous health incidents' (AHIs for short): https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-68706317 wtf is sonic weaponry ?
  2. Rose-breasted grosbeak
  3. First listen, and I simply cannot believe this. The boy done cheffed up so many bricks that his wrist went diamond. Incredible! Still digesting, but have been enjoying the album so far. There are some beats by long time collaborators Animoss and Alchemist, but Roc does the lion's share of production on this album, and his production sounds great, definitely more hi fi then his usual dusty soul sample drums-low-in-the-mix referencing pimp culture and blaxploitation films, although that aesthetic is still present and pronounced in places. I enjoyed his verse in the song Larry Bird: 'like Operation Paperclip it don't cost a lotta paper to get you clipped'
  4. Less than 24 hours until new Roc Marciano drops. So pumped! Might have to stay up past my bedtime this evening so I can listen right when it's up. Gonna listen to some of his classics in the meantime.
  5. Fuck yeah! Whatever is going on with the bass in that track sounds incredible. Kool Keith the man
  6. at the very least he would probably cut off military funding for Israel
  7. Never content to rest on his laurels after dropping out of the presidential race, Chris Christie is seen here at a college basketball game pouring a small bag of M&Ms into a bigger bag of M&Ms.
  8. Brian De Palma's Hi, Mom! (1970) Hilarious film, right from the start. Comic dialogue is amazing, also interesting to see De Niro early in his career (De Palma discovered him and worked with him much later in The Untouchables). I am not a big John Luc Godard fan, although I have seen a handful of his films and liked some of the stylistic touches and innovations (and there is no question from me how influential his work is). De Palma really liked his work at this point in his career. I like that De Palma is able to do the Godard thing, reminding people that they are watching a film, while still managing to be very humorous and entertaining. The Be Black Baby sequence in the second half of the film has to be one of the best satires I've seen on film. The satire throughout the whole film is great and much more bold or crude than his later work. I do not mean crude in a negative way, far from it, just that De Palma imo became much more subtle and indirect as he matured (in the ways he satirizes different elements of American art, culture, and society).
