  1. People who piggyback on famous franchises with fan art to maximize their audience. The original twitter poster does a lot of pokemon & mario shit.
  2. Damn, RIP one of the OG's. I'm pretty sure he wrote perl scripts that automated the long-ass posts at some point.
  3. People have been whining about digital cheating for a long time. Big whoop, these cookie-cutter fan artists are easy for an AI to mimic...
  4. Ketron have released a ton of cool stuff over the years, like the instant Italo Disco machine:

Not super often these days. I don't really look at them as similar in any way, even though I mainly painted digitally. This is more of a novel dice roller gadget with visual results. So it's pretty cool but it's nowhere near the enjoyment, effort and involvement of constructing something stroke by stroke. There are lots of aids and tricks in the digital painting world and I always disliked relying on those, but I'm also aware there's a world of traditional painters who think all digital art is BS. You could tie paintbrushes to your dog's paws and claim you're the creator of whatever happens. It's easier to feel removed from what Dall-E does as it's pretty unexpected. I'm not sure how I'd feel about a version with super specific instructions or direct brain link. It's a bit like generative music versus playing an instrument, I'm not saying one is strictly better but they are different.

If you ask for faces or portraits specifically, it does better, and you can ask for certain facial details to increase your chances. Ideally you'd reroll until it gets the right result. Back in my painting circles we had the saying "a bad face ruins everything.", meaning that you'll get away with a lot of wonky stuff except for the face. Aside from what ghsotword brought up, there's a lot of preventions built into the AI to avoid the likenesses of real people etc. I think that contributes to messing it up sometimes.

Initial verdict... For realistic looking photos and 3D renders, Dall-E wins everything. I still feel Midjourney is more creative, possibly by having a major dataset from contemporary digital art. It has more customizable prompt functions and is fun to use. Look at o00o's midjourney pictures and how imaginative they are, that's difficult in Dall-E. How to even manipulate Dall-E prompts is a dark art and mostly guesswork. There are no specific tags like the :: separators or --no command in midjourney, you just have to try various ways at constructing natural English sentences. "A photo of [X]" is better than "[X], photo". You likely have to re-game the system a lot to get the result you want. When it does nail things, it is awesome and hilarious though. I asked my trusted friends to try a few prompts... 10. I found myself looking up geothermal heating costs the other day (big factor in a potential house move) and realized no, I didn't expect this kind of stuff would one day be a bigger concern than my Soundcloud followers.
  11. Pretty good but it took a while to get there! Many dreams died along the way but so did many insecurities, fair trade I guess. Some situations were very difficult, some choices were stupid. Happy about my life and relationships today. World situation has turned out a lot worse than I expected. Trying to be level-headed about expectations, priorities and life in general. One day it's all gone so I don't bother thinking too much about it. My main hope is to remain reasonably healthy, everything else is just a bonus. It was a bumpy ride with hard lessons to get here, so having some nuclear zombie bullshit happen now would be a kick in the nuts.

Yay I got into Dall-E 2! Gave it the ol' goblin pilot test. Asked for a new avatar as well but it just can't spell Supreme...
  13. edit: Dall-E 2 hates facial likenesses to real people...
  14. I'm guessing they are culling a lot of remote working keyboard jockeys with vague, trendy work titles.
  15. They laid off 40% in 2017 which didn't help things. Sounds like a sinking ship and imo they're trying to be too much by catering to everyone imaginable. The site experience itself is a complete mess, free audio streamrate is atrocious (64k!), I have over ten thousand bot listens and ceaseless spam in my inbox.

Don't forget to check the prompt craft section for tips on prompts, some real wizards in there. Midjourney is super sensitive to the way you write. Adding a keyword multiple times, at any place, will increase its weight. Everything is weighed from left to right so your starting sentence is most important. The :: separator helps to further describe the scene but don't be afraid of repeating the subject! It's really good at forgetting important stuff... If you want a certain angle, like a full figure for instance, it helps to add keywords that suggest it in the scene, like shoes. The command --no helps to avoid some typical AI weirdo stuff, i.e repeating anatomy in the same figure and long necks, or just to narrow your search and avoid certain camera effects. The --no command stacks by using commas. But every "no" is a negative 0.5 and you can't end up with a zero or negative weight, so the positive keywords have to outnumber the negative ones. Midjourney is also well fed on a lot of styles by artists from Picasso to modern digital concept artists like Craig Mullins or Sparth, I think the command is --style. Lots of other stuff like aspect ratio "--ar 16:9"helps to give the result you want.

Newbie channels in the discord if you're freebie, just use /imagine. I think you need to use /subscribe and follow the instructions if you want paid options.

Midjourney handed out 25 credits, that means more goblin pilot attempts. I had better luck with the prompt "orc Goblin pilot in aircraft, happy :: aircraft cockpit interior wide, goblin in pilot seat wearing pilot glasses looking through cockpit window :: goblin steampunk detailed, 3d render, close wide angle, interior, photorealistic :: --no extra anatomy, double anatomy, long anatomy, blur", and just requesting variations on that whenever it got something good.
