Well i am pretty sure im going to get completely burned for this but

Numbers Lucent is my favourite squarepusher ep

before anyone comes up with a clever suggestion i own practically jenkinsons back catalogue,

its not even that i think the whole ep is great; but zounds perspex, heliacal torch, paradise garage and startime no. 1 are beastly tunes.

over the years admittedly ive seen my appreciation change, i must of listened to hard normal daddy thousands of times, go plastic was like honey in garage plated world as i was growing up, ultravistor is almost the nuts of a track, i adore terra-sync, love squarewindow and enjoy having a barbie listening to music is one rotted note.

however those four tracks in the numbers lucent ep really sum it up for me, even though some of the breaks are not amen!

are you down with the underground?

yeah it's great, but, better than big loada?

i think it's right next to it

Squarepushers theme should be changed to startime no 1

Hello everything i also liked a lot but that deffo but that album was the shocking move into a more mainstream sound, what i really like about about n.l is that is already sounds like a dated popular genre mix.

If you have ever composed tunes on cubase or fruityloops or something similar then you know there is nothing more irritating than hearing those same loops over and over, for me the way he has manipulated the loops on this ep is commonplace for him but really really well done, i would get bored listening to the loops in beep street/port rhombus/full rinse, perhaps because i have heard them too much. i like the way he has layered this ep moving away from the drum emphasis and making the melodies more prominent.

I like the fact the ep has six tracks

1 filler - arterial fantasy

and the trademark over the top take

illegal dustbin (eg modern bass guitar, astromm feck etc)

Square Window EP fucking rules.

Abacus 2 is one of my most-played pusher tracks.

Venus no.17 is classic.

yeah beach boys are good.

as for best EP, i'm gonna have to disagree. big loada and square window blow numbers lucent out of the water and onto land 500 miles in, and let's not forget port rhombus and venus no.17 either.

it's pretty neck and neck with conumber and vic acid though.

yes, i like beach boys but they always get slagged off.

no, i don't like yanni; i think perhaps he deserves to be slagged off.

i credit aphex twinz with my acquisition + use of the verbiage SLAGGING OFF; sorry squarepusher forum.

p.s. a real woman --> beach boys?

ok yes a lot of squarespushers work could be interpreted as heading towards the fruitier spectrum; real women especially. At the end of the day he is catering toward the right audience. Numbers lucent is a quality ep, squarewindow was awesome but lets talk about you and me was definately fruity. . As for the guy who said he would kill me, well i think you are being ott but fair enough squarepusher named it himself so his theme is his theme. Its not down to me and i dont want to die over a song.

i dont want to die over a song.

- Not A Real Fan.

Can you show me what it like to be real?

I was at a party the other night trying to convince a room full of eminem loving coke heads that nl was the way forward, even though i think i NL is quite commercial sounding, like most squarepusher presses i realised they would never get it, they didnt complain but i doubt squarepusher will ever be simple enough for them.

e.g tracks with a drum layer and a bass layer and some prick rapping on top. I played that bloody beetroots ep afterwards and they loved it.

had you had some yourself?? i know what it's like to love a record and want others to share in that, but very quickly i realized you can't ever reach some people that way... it's an emotional experience, and arguments are about rationality.

while we're here, i've never had such an emphatic argument as the time when i was debating a coked-out gentleman about the best way to wrestle a dog. i maintained the winning strategy would be to get control of the neck, while he was arguing for various wrestling tactics or something. we were both full of shit.

Nobody would give a fuck about Numbers Lucent if artist name wasn't "Squarepusher".

Assuming this sad fact, its a great record and I enjoyed it.

yea but with that being said, Numbers lucent does not embody the reason why Squarepusher has gotten to the point he is today and does represent the Squarepusher that received the critical and commercial acclaim he has been remembered for. This happens to every successful artist so it's kind of an ignorant statement.

  • 4 weeks later...

The tracks on this EP are the flip side of Just A Souvenir. The rapid beats almost hint at him being ashamed of the previous jazz-fest. It's only the artwork that links the two pieces.

Now allow me to digress:

OOOOYAH KUNTAY YE!! THAT DRUM PROGRAMMIN ON ARTERIAL FATASY IS A WEE BIT FUCKIN SPECIAL IS IT NOT!!!!!!!!! HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THE PROGRAMED THAT MACHINE.
