It seems that this issue comes up all the time whenever the genre Shoegaze is mentioned. I wanted to set it up as a poll.

Which one do you like better ?

P.S - If you didnt know, Souvlaki is an album by Slowdive, not something you eat( so keep all those smart ass comments to yourself).

This is the first time I've heard of this being a point of discussion.

For me the albums have such different associations I find it very hard to compare them and pick a favourite.

i would say the same thing.

they're both VERY different though they may be rooted in a similar sort of guitar/effects-drenched wall-of-sound (not mr spector) type of production. i mean, sure they're both pop albums, but i think it's pretty difficult to compare them. rhythmically speaking i think i like souvlaki better, and overall i like souvlaki better, but only slightly and it's a personal preference that might not jive with someone else's tastes.

both are hit or miss for me, but i'd probably say souvlaki. i just remember the good tracks on that album being much better than the good tracks on loveless for some reason

loveless for me, if only because loveless is more unique.

i gotta go with Souvlaki because it was the first and most magical to me.

But with that even said, Isn't Anything I would argue is on par if not better than Loveless.

loveless is like a date in heaven during a dream with the most beautiful girl centuries long ago in a memory

souvlaki is great but i genuinely think it doesn't reach the mystical levels loveless reaches

also i don't think my bloody valentine released a single album or ep (after the really, really early stuff) that could be considered anything less than great

pygmalion is amazingly good. and just for a day has a few really great songs on it, and a few poor songs.

Actually listening to Souvlaki a bit now. I have to say it's probably my obsessively drowning everything in delay/reverb that got me into Slowdive so much.

Souvlaki Space Station is basically like the anthem for that.

Loveless has a lot of reverb too - but not as much.

Space Station is my quintessential Shoegazer track because it represents absolutely everything I love about the genre, soaked in so much reverb you can barely seperate the voices from the instruments....and you know they are saying something, but it doesnt matter its still wildly beautiful...Space Station is the musical encapsulation of a dying star exploding.

Loveless, no contest. I got really excited by Slowdive after the first EP, but by the time Just For A Day surfaced I'd lost all interest in them. I never even realised they'd released anything since until a few years ago (true fan).

And yeah, where the FUCK are the MBV remasters?!!!
