'The final four minutes were tracked with music from two other Twentieth Century Fox features - these were 'temp tracks' which the studio ultimately decided to leave in the picture. The poignant music heard when McClane and Powell see each other for the first time is from John Scott's score for Man on Fire (1987). When Karl appears with his rifle, a cut from the 1986 sci-fi action film Aliens composed by James Horner is heard. This music can be found on the Aliens soundtrack as the first few minutes of the cue "Resolution and Hyperspace".

alien track

its used in the scene where the fat cop shoots karl. interesting but irrelevant to the topic.

Guest Al Hounos

how could i forget? (the GITS video reminded me of it when i saw that it was also composed by Yoko Kanno, who did the music for Cowboy Bebop too - and what fantastic soundtrack(s) that show had)

I just bought the soundtrack from A Serious Man and it has got to be one of the most beautiful soundtracks from 2009. To be honest, I don't really remember any themes from 2009? Whatever happened to epic themes like Star Wars, Superman, ET, Gremlins, Godfather and so on? Today it's all about that typical action-thunder-Jerry-Bruckheimer-Michael-Bay-music. Fuck Michael Bay.

I sure as hell hope that Carter Burwell wins an Oscar for his sublime soundtrack. Unfortunately there are no YouTube-soundtrack videos available, but the album has just been released on iTunes so go give it a listen.

Ah yes! Though the movie has some weird music issues. There's a dramatic theme melody as well with drums and everything and it sounds extremely low budget compared to the excellent waltz theme you posted.

Oh and when I opened this thread right now, Velzquez's eloquent one word post leaped out at me which reminded me to post the two themes I forgot before:

Shaft - Shaft (Composed by Isaac Hayes)

Superfly - Pusherman (Composed by Curtis Mayfield) starts about 2:00 in.
