That maybe the nightsayers were all taking the piss out of a lone simpleton that had idiotically suggested "at night" at some distant point in the past... and the continued use of "night" was just a witty reference to that simpleton, rather like the kid who slept with the hedgehog for the rush, the adaptation etc. When i realised that people do actually believe it, when suggesting that it is anything other than "in the heat"... i think that's when i lost the last scrap of my faith in humanity.
