http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/03/gaza-flotilla-attack-british-activists-return-turkey

so the activists from turkey are saying that if they took the boat to the israeli controlled port, the supplies don't get to palestinians in gaza. and the israelis are saying that of course we would send them supplies, and they defend their actions in international waters by saying there was reasonable suspicion that the boats were carrying contraband/intended to break the blockade and this gives them the right to commandeer the boats.

sup?

here's another article cause that guardian one is just kinda about the brits flying back.

I've also noticed, that even though this is a fairly big news story, noone's touching it. The news networks are handling this like "news", without the social commentary, finger pointing, and general political pandering they usually work into a story. It's just raw reporting. And since noone's given the general populace talking points, or made up their mind's for them... well, all quiet on the Israel news front, isn't it?

Israel set up a trade blockade because they claimed Palestinians were getting arms from the trade.... right so they set a blockade up and a bunch of activists still drive on into the blockade, wtf did they honestly expect?!?!?!? its fucking Israel who have an appalling track record! who the fuck thought it was a wise idea to just sail on in anyway....

Unless I got the wrong end of the stick and Israel just went "SURPRISE" without saying "we're blocking trade like that"

I still obviously strongly disagree with the insane ethics of Israel... its like a bunch of kids chucking rocks at a tank that conflict is...

PS: If I'm wholly wrong, someone please feel free to educate me about it...

IT'S THE ZIONIST WORLD CONSPIRACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously, as it is now, any criticism on israel will be called out as anti-semitism, especially by the ADL who see anti-semites everywhere. anti-zionism does not equal anti-semitism. also the use of the holocaust card is getting old and i also don't like how the holocaust is used to downplay other genocides throughout history.

gotta love lobbyists.. the Jewish lobby is the biggest in our country which is why we support them and give them billions every year. that way, they can disrespect the world and do whatever they want. I'd be happy if the next 'regime change' was for Israel and all their arrogant and egocentric ways.

Pretty much...

Israel is a bully. Relying on it's peoples past oppressions to grant itself the excuse to behave like it's former oppressors. And they have the backing of the strongest military in the world. If they want to launch modern missiles and fly state of the art aircraft over Gaza and decimate the people there, while they throw rocks... then let Israel stand on its own.

Anyone that speaks out against Israel will be labeled an anti-semite. So they've got carte-blanche to do whatever the fuck they want.

Fuck Israel.

Does this look like it'd be a threat to Israel?

srsly no one on watmm sympathizes with israel? any birthrighters?

i only say this because shit is pretty divided on my local msgboard; people saying this last incident was justified or not in heated debate. in this instance i don't think israel had business blockading gaza in the first place, and that's sort of the main issue. also people denying that israel would confiscate the cargo if they ported in the proper israeli controlled area.

i just want to get a feel for how people feel about this across the world, and what better place to get a sample than an obscure music forum?

i always get a kick out of laid back apolitical people who say things like 'both sides are as bad as each other' or something to that effect in regards to this incident. the video Israel keeps showing with all the things circled and pointed out so the public can understand these 9 (or 19 people) deserved to be killed is disgusting, its like when the republicans couldn't accept what they saw in the Wikileaks video so they had to start pointing out all the 'rpgs' in the frame with badly done MSpaint.

it just makes me so mad how controlled the american media is about this and how people act like the sides are in any way equatable. All activism, even the humanitarian kind is meant to elecit some kind of reaction, so to fault the boat of people for trying to 'get a reaction' and somehow excusing what the israeli's did in any way as response is pretty illogical. Using that line of logic it would have been acceptable to these same people for the military to flatten this guy like a pancake because he was just being an attention seeking crazy protestor

The flotilla was a passive aggressive action; the activists were hoping for a situation to make Israel look bad. They and the supporters (Turkey for instance) are trying to argue that Israel had no right to inspect the ship, which is bullshit. They didn't try to compromise. Now how the hell 9 people being killed is justified is beyond me.

Israel needs to get its shit together by absolutely stopping settlements, cutting ties with the religious right lobby here in American, and curtail it's military operations outside of its borders. If Obama had any balls, he'd cut off military aid to Israel.

I pity the Palestinians: they'll continue to be oppressed by Israel because if they remain led by anti-Semitic fanatics. Most Pro-Palestinian activists deny the fact that Hamas provokes Israel military action, uses human shields, and actively censors and controls citizens of Gaza. To answer you're question, I still sympathize with Israel as a nation: it's the only secular democracy in the entire region. Hell, it's the only place in the Middle East where being homosexual or an athiest isn't taboo or a serious legal issue. If they deserve to be regularly called fascists, then Hamas deserves even harsher criticism for exploiting Palestinian suffering for their political objectives.

hmm..i'll try

israeli army tries to take over the ship that's about to break its blockade.

expecting peace activists and mild resistance commandos armed with crowd dispersing weapons land on a deck and nearly get killed by a mob with knives and metal rods, that's the stage where they are allowed to use live fire. another group lands and uses live ammo on those attacking the soldiers. 9 deaths, - 100000 pr points for israel. there's no information so far on how those 9 died. the aid that the ship carried is already in gaza and its much less than the average amount that passes to gaza from israel daily. im not 100% sure but the word is that all of the ships which carried aid fro gaza in the past got redirected to the israeli port and the aid was delivered, no casualties

I was raised Jewish but Israel has been pissing me off for years. After this incident, I think I'll give up on them for good. People need to remember, however hard it is to believe, that some Israelis disagree with what their government has done and does to this day.
