i thought Rephlex owned the name AFX and Warp owned Aphex Twin. Also, from the sound of several past interviews RDJ wanted to stop doing business with Warp all together. whats up? i thought Druqks was RDJs final fulfillment to Warp? does any one know whats up?

Chosen Lords is out on Rephlex, the Warp site stuff is because its being sold in Warpmart. Warpmart is only a stockist, like Boomkat or HMV, I don't think Aphex would turn away the chance to stock his music there. As for all the promotion stuff up at the site, thats just Warps way of drumming up anticipation.

that makes sense, then does anyone know whether or not Warp Records still owns the name Aphex Twin, or if his contract was really fulfilled with Drukqs/26 Mixes?

well, back in 95 Hangable Auto Bulb (by AFX) was released on warp. and analord 10 was released on rephlex by aphex twin.

its sounds pretty random to me.

i hope it's a decent poster (unlike the 5 x 5 one that came with TCH)... stop slacking off warp!

I doubt it'll be a small poster due to the considerably higher postage cost of this version.

in my analord room.

:fear:

I also have one room in my house devoted to the Analord. It's hermetically sealed and only I can enter it, via an identification process which involves me resting my nutsack on a scanner.

I haven't got details on the poster yet...

As far as I know, there's no "You can't do Aphex Twin music on another label", and the Analord thing sort of proves this.

As for contractual obligations, does it matter? Richard will keep releasing music, either on Rephlex, on WARP, or whatever label he wants. We'll all hopefully benefit in the end.

all this aphex/AFX thing, who owns the name etc.

let me try and clear this up a bit.

if rdj has a recording contract with warp/rephlex, then he would (generally, because contracts differ).. own the music and his own artist name, and warp would own the specific recordings of the music for the duration of the contract.

if he had a publishing deal, then he signs over ownership of the music, ie any recrding of it must be licensed by the publisher.

in general neither of these type of deals will restrict the usew of any of his names.

unless he's tied into a multi release recording contract.. this basically states he's not allowed to record fopr anyone else under that specific name until the duration of the contract is up...

i happen to know that warp like to tie their more lucrative acts into a multi album contract, but that shouldn't stop them releasing on other labels under a different name.

hope that helps.

Gah. I really want the poster but I can walk to Pelicanneck/Boomkat and buy the CD for £8.99, or order it off Warpmart for the same price and pay an extra £2.50 postage for a 'free' poster.....kind of defeats the object don't it
