Stopping a film before it's ended.

I have a natural ability to stop a film after 10, 20 or 30 minutes or whenever I feel it's gonna be shit until the end. Many people tell me this is wrong, that one should watch a movie until the very end to make up your mind. Their main argument is that you never know how a film can turn up. Stupid. You can easily detect stuff that will make a bad movie during the first 30 minutes. Same thing for books, I can quit after 20 pages if I don't like the writing. Some of my friends tell me you shouldn't quit reading before page 100.

Another thing I can do is split a film in two parts, say, two times an hour. Murder they say.

Discuss.

I used to watch, say, an hour of a movie at a time, over the course of two or three (if it was particularly long) days. Recently I just sit down, get comfy, and watch the whole thing. I very rarely turn off a movie before it ends unless it's absolutely completely massively shitty.

It'll be interesting to see how often this happens when A Serbian Film comes out on dvd... watching it in the theater I wished I could stop it and take a break(and probably never come back).

i find it simultaneously stupid and logical.

a part of me says i should give it a chance and go through all of it, because it is the only way i can know for sure if i enjoy it or not. the other part says i should stop it as soon as possible and not waste any time.

i do it a lot, because, even if i don't like, lets say, the first 30 minutes but enjoy the remaining, then i don't like the whole thing.

so i prefer to think i should focus on what i really like, because life is short and i know that what i really like always finds a way of getting to me, eventually.

I studied dramaturgy/script writing a couple of years ago and I read an article by some guy who said that you within 10 minutes have formed an opinion about the movie you're watching and this opinion will effect the rest of the viewing and I believe this to be correct. Actually, I have a tendency to do this.

I can sit through not very good films, but I'll stop and shift+delete stinkers. I'm still angry about the 40 minutes of The Hunting Party (2007) that I watched a few weeks ago.

NEVER. I've tried but god damn things get confusing. I think the only way that could be pulled off is if someone who had already seen the movie watched it again looking for a good point in the story arch for it to be stopped at and then told you before you watched it. Even then, it sorta just sucks ass. Kinda like when you fap and it gets interrupted and you finish afterwards, but it's just never the same fap after debonerization i.e. phone call, parents walk in, house catches fire etc.

i think the first 30 minutes can tell you a lot about the rest of the movie

i envision directors trying to make the beginning the most interesting to lure people into watching the rest,

so typically if the first 30 sucks they've really just fucked it all up

It's a bad habit I'm kicking. There are way too many books and movies I left unfinished. It's become a staple of my personality not to finish shit I don't want to finish. It's a weakness, IMHO.

I watched that movie. The only thing I can remember from it is that scene where they've just gotten tattoos and they're going "dude", "sweet".

I seem to have blocked off the rest of that movie from my memory.
