Chatmm seems to have died. A possible cost saving measure to be made there?

Working fine here - we certainly didn't do anything to it...

He means popularity-wise

Speaking of costs... we're at 38USD and the hosting is 50USD - anyone want to get an EKT or EKT Plus membership and bring us home and keep the lights on?

I just gave 20$ the other week. But yeah whatever. It'll look nice in perspective sitting next to my car insurance bill on the credit card statement.

Those were ads that supported the site, but the company went bust ages ago or something - pretty soon the new Viglink revenue should start rolling in, and if the early indications are anything to go by, WATMM's financial support should be in good shape.

Finally! I always wanted to browse WATMM with some flashy porn ads.

O, the irony. Imagine having porn-ads on a forum with an anti-porn policy. At least you'll make money!! ;p

so then, we'll allow a continuation of this situation that is a board we endure with our blessing. It's not something to snark and curse with dark insinuation. I like watmm, do you, gift upon the world the electronic lovers foundation.

Viglinks are not ads - they are click-through revenue for normal links posted here. WATMM will stay banner and advertisement-free for as long as I am running the show.

so what is viglink and where should i see the ads?

I think it's just if you click a link to a purchasing page somewhere, like Amazon or something, there's an interim page that briefly appears and Joyrex gets a commission. I'm not 100% on that but I think that's how it works.

Expect to see stuff like "Support WATMM by purchasing items from Amazon through this link"

That's roughly correct - it even works with Ebay auctions as well - if you click through, end up purchasing something, then I get a percentage from the retailer since my site drove the traffic (and completed sale) to the merchant's site. It's totally invisible, and is the perfect way for the hosting to get paid for and not compromise the site with ads or requiring anyone to do anything they don't want to do.

And we will NOT be encouraging people to click on links or post links just for the sake of potentially garnering revenue. Nice that you think that way about me and the site.

ebay/selling subforum.

so the rest of us sheep don't have to plough through all the ebay/selling threads.

There already is one... The Gear Box

We honestly don't get enough people here selling their stuff on Ebay to justify a subforum for it, I think...

If you are ever going to consider to incentivize people selling their stuff, please make a subforum.

Perhaps a 'marketplace' where they can list their ebay auctions would be a good idea - it's a central place where everyone can see and list their stuff for sale and not 'clutter' up any of the artist subforums with the occasional 'selling my Aphex Twin Limited Edition Biscuit that Richard himself took a bite out of when high on paint thinner at a rave' posts...

What does everyone else think about this?

Wasn't insinuating anything, that's just what another forum I frequent does. Don't think it's too offensive, pretty good way to support the forum really as I buy a lot of stuff online.

Maybe then someone will tell me where to grab some decent clothes shops on the net that deliver to oZ. We'll have new users logging on to post randomly, and then start buy from here cause they're cool, threads. ;-p Although if that was gonna happen, it already would be.

seems fairly decent, I'm sure there are plenty of people with record collections others would like to peruse, random memorabilia and merch etc

wattum could be a place where someone looking for these things might browse first instead of Ebay and likewise people selling to wattumers would probably give better prices than listing it on Ebay/Discogs because it saves them the hassle....

Hrmm, as long as this website isn't doing data collection for later sale, of every link we click out of from watmm. I don't want to have to bother to save links to the clipboard and to drop into new tab. Just to avoid snooping.

The Gearbox is specifically for music gear, hence it's organization under EKT - this would be more for anything anyone would want to sell (although I'd prefer it stick to music-related stuff) and expose those links to the community here. Being in a central location also might cause others to purposely check it versus missing the occasional thread in the Artist subforums...

Oh, gotcha. It would likely get a good inter-watmm market going as well, which would be awesome.
