I hate when bands have to prove that they've recorded to tape by using that "started the tape while playing guitar" sound, ie. the beginning of this track:

It's so fucking common in shoegaze, WHY?!

that national anthem one is just an effect though, from the previous song (kid a). here's a real one:

another. subtler:

Hit up some Simon and GarFUNKel, I can already hear Scarborough Fair with a synth arpeggio in the background.

Haha, maybe! I do want to try recent stuff though, to make it seem like it was actually a cover of an 80s pop song.. zole

I blame Glee.

Oh this has been happening for a long time before Glee:

i hate the retro-style stock sample 808 & 909 beats that are in everything.

electronic music has infinite potential and the hip thing right now is to make your songs sound 20-30 years old. yawn.

I'd agree with you, but I'd be contradicting myself, considering the amount of time I spend making my music sound like it was made in the 70s/80s :emotawesomepm9:

Nah, my stuff isn't the 'cool' kind of 70s/80s throwback. My 70s stuff sounds like Genesis and my 80s stuff sounds like.. er.. Genesis.. as opposed to sounding like Hall & Oates or whoever the cool kids are ripping off these days.

When you hear the beat go quarter, quarter, eight eight eight eighth, then a bunch of 16ths. You've definitely heard it before, cant describe it too well

...then 32nds then 64ths then a granular roll and then the beat comes back in?

yeah, getting ready for the "big event" that is about to happen... fucking just kill me now

i thought the same, and still kind of do

live it fucking kills though.

Autechre actually uses the drum-machine overload in this track:

I want to think it's tongue-in-cheek...
