What I don't understand is that Kanye West had tour t shirts that had the confederate flag as part of the graphic. Like, we get it. Fashion is such art, so wow. But a black dude wearing a confederate flag, is that like taking back the word nigga?

"heritage not hate" makes it even more confusing! you mean your heritage of slave owners? i think it's sort of impossible to remove the associations with that flag, why don't they find something else to symbolise what they supposedly stand for? i guess there's just not that much thought put into it.

It's a catch-all nana-nana-boo-boo for people who are too ignorant to research the history of the areas they live in.

The confederate flag symbolizes a time where our nation was divided on the right to own black people. I think it's something, like a set of braces headgear, or a stack of porn mags you had as a teen - best kept in a deep closet, like the hatred festering inside for the equality of all humans.

when someone is rocking the confederate flag, what exactly are they trying to say?

What a designer of an early version of the flag wanted to say:

As a people we are fighting to maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause.

As a national emblem, it is significant of our higher cause, the cause of a superior race, and a higher civilization contending against ignorance, infidelity, and barbarism.

i dont really consider american mass school shooting to be news any more, basically for the same reason newspapers dont report car crashes here apart from on traffic channels.

The Civil War was about states rights, not slavery.

The right of states to own slaves, heh. Or more accurately, the right of the confederate states to force the union states to enforce confederate slavery laws (like returning of stolen 'property'). So it was actually the union states who were for states rights and the confederates for more federal powers, not the other way around. The union states would actually have happily compromised and allowed the southern states to continue slavery, but the southern states were being total dicks about the whole thing.
