Anyone on the lookout for good independent hip hop might want to check out this cd - john is aka lil sci from original fondle 'em artists scienz of life and a longtime collaborator with MF Doom (he also has an album out now/soon produced entirely by Doom, but i haven't heard that yet). This one is on the fat city label and has production from FlyLo, Jneiro (Dr Who Dat, Shape of Broad Minds), Carlos Nino (Ammoncontact) and others. It's really good!

Another Electronic Musician - Five

it has been a while since i have released a full length on n5MD, two years to be exact. those two years were not spent idle, but instead resulted in five, an album that expands n5MD into territory it does not often go. for most of n5MD's existence the "electronic music" genre descriptor has been used sparingly and only for those artists that utilized a more strict electronic pallet. the label has shied away from such a specific genre tag because the music created by their artists lacks the "d" of electronic music...yes, dance. that trend changes with five. five puts the dance back into electronic music through the fusion of techno, house, electro, and jazz. the release…

MGT029 VA - No New Enemies Vol. 1

Ahh, the uphill battle that is releasing electronic music and trying to explain to uninformed fans (and even friends) that it's not all the same 4/4 club music. It is difficult to attract attention to the hidden gems of the genre, there is so much good music that comes out weekly which gets buried under mediocre mainstream releases; the gelled up DJs, and the gimmicks that don't age well. With "No New Enemies Vol. 1" we're attempting to change that. We've assembled our most diverse, and melodic material from past, present and future releases on Moodgadget, and we think this is our finest attempt to date to expose the diversity in this expansive genre's sound. We'…

Jimmy Edgar - Nothing Is Better

Jimmy Edgar's exclusive Moodgadget single "Nothing is Better" is both heavy and seductive; like a heart attack induced by sex. John Hughes' slow burning remix alluringly pulls you into his fantasy world more with each passing beat. The title "Nothing is Better" is left open to interpretation by Jimmy. For example, it could mean "nothing else could be better" or, "nothing is definitely better than what we have here now." Listen and we think you'll agree, it doesn't get much better than this. 1. During the latter part of June 2007 I decided to experiment with making electronic songs without a computer. I was always intrigued by the idea of simple improvising with an TR808, TB303, and TR909 but not so excited about the sounds they made. I had been collecting drum machines over the years but never really used them beyond recording bits into the computer and mangling the crap out of them, or triggering clips via M…
