  1. Unmistaken Child (link for part 2) you might know the dalai lama reincarnates, he's been the same dude since the 1300s supposedly. well other lamas, spiritual masters, can also deliberately reincarnate and their followers seek out their new incarnations. in 2001 a lama died and a documentary followed the quest of his 21 year old disciple to find his master's baby body. they find him, a 3 year old, shave the baby, he gets authenticated by the dalai lama. 10/10
  2. hearts of darkness - interesting look into making of apocalypse now. coppola kind of losing his shit as he's improvising the story and having trouble being satisfied/10
  3. the new x-men is pretty cool. it actually felt like a comic book experience, not a hollywood bastardization.
  4. a member of the rephlex society defected and was trying to release the tracks to the world. richard had to get them back somehow. jr played right into his hands...
  5. it's fucking important to try to see the funny side of things

  6. The Golden Bowl - 8/10 - solid period piece, based on a henry james story, beginning of the 20th century, europe, nobility. great performances by uma thurman, kate beckinsale, nick nolte, anjelica houston. nf streaming in us.
  7. Are you talking about AB5 or the Caustic Window LP? That's supposedly the reason for AB5, but the Caustic Window LP was scrapped because they (Rephlex) decided they wanted to release more records by artists other than RDJ (or so I've heard). cw lp. detractors have called it a "reject album" and whatnot, but a time capsule album seems brilliant and fitting for the circumstances, and it jives with what you said
  8. exactly. he was like ehhhh i should just save this for later
  9. there's this idea that richard decided not to release it because it wasn't good enough, but what if he decided to withhold it just for the fuck of it? seems like a very richard thing to do. time capsule album. what if it's insane? some great unidentified tracks from rome 02 sound exactly like unreleased cw.
  10. Black Fish is streaming in the US (Netflix) 10/10 - great interviews, well put together, tackles one of the penultimate philosophical issues of modern times: the personhood of animals. couches compelling video and scientific evidence regarding the mental and emotional sophistication of orca whales in the history of trainers being killed by orcas at sea world and similar establishments. also some corporate crimes, lies and coverups mentioned in passing.
  11. this one cracks me up in a very dark way. this dude is amazing.
  12. greg taylor is editor of the daily grail website, a news site replenished daily with links to articles on topics at the edge of what is known, like ufo sightings, cryptozoology stories, new theories and research on historical mysteries, scientific discoveries, and conspiracy theories. he put out an e-zine called sub rosa for a number of issues and has published several collections of original essays along the themes of his site called dark lore, both with many notable contributors. his writing is always thoughtful and he has a good mind for research and skepticism, so this book of his in which he examines the phenomenon of end of life experiences and other things relating to the possibility of an afterlife is a great thing.
  13. found 21 nocturnes by chopin, quote good
  14. getting psyched for the caustic window time capsule album

  15. the internet is boring

  16. happy people - cool herzog doc about an isolated village way north in russia. focuses on a trapper. 10/10
  17. about anchorman 2, farrel wrote the second half, mckay wrote the first half. writing a sequel to a huge success is asking for disappointment; people who want a copy of the original will be disappointed by an original sequel, and people wanting an original sequel will be disappointed by a duplicate. will farrel i think would want to go weird and original, which would have left most viewers disappointed imo, so they came up with the idea to have mckay do the first half, set it up like reasonable sequel, then farrel kind of jazzes it out with the second half. tbh i was playing guitar and half paying attention for a lot of it and then didn't really want to rewatch it, but i thought the second half picked up the pace, and the ending was pretty good, too.
  18. dude yes. a lot of music is at another level with nice headphones. i did some research and spent a hundred us dollars on k240s which i like a lot, but if you want to spend more there are much better ones. from aaa thread: 1.Is autechre for headphones - yes or no? 1 yes absolutely, since the start. Having bedroom studios forced us to do it all on cans a great majority of the time early on. Late night manchester radio shows - listening had to be done covertly. We also had quite a few Walkmans (yeah 80s er), journeys to school/college would be essential headphones time. Later on we would 'idiot check' tracks' final mixes on cans during each DAT pass.. And still a lot of cans throughout the entire process - where necessary.
