  1. When Come to dust starts, it's like my whole life and that of the universe stand before my eyes... After Tomorrow's Harvest, I think the next logical step for Boards, conceptually speaking, would be to make a science-fiction, futuristic, intergalactic album. They left the earth behind with this album. Now it's time to travel beyond.
  2. My favourite BoC album. More mature and balanced. Darkness and light united.
  3. "well as i said before. lx doesnt play anything or operate any gear. but that doesnt mean he didnt contribute ideas. he did contribute sounds from BBC sound effects records and ahem the tape beatles and others. but generally it wasnt a fully 50/50 effort really. trying to be positive here without ranting. alex would contribute the vocal samples, chicken noises and other conceptual ideas, but i would actually make the music with his samples and my synth/effects/production work." 4. By the way, I love History of the future. A very nostalgic experience to revisit The Orb during their best years, at least for me. My all-time favorites remain Pomme fritz, Orbus terrarum and Orblivion. And of course, Okie Dokie.
  5. It's all very interesting but I want to hear some results? I mean obviously, he was in The Orb when the band created some trailblazing music and formed their "classic" status. No doubt about that. I want to believe his story and indeed, Alex seems to be a DJ hiring guns such as Thrash, Hugues and Fehlmann to create music for him to label as The Orb. At least to some degree. But still, why hasn't he been able to produce other great music since 94? This kind of goes against what he is pretending to be, this artist mastermind musical genius behind The Orb in its inception and formative years.
  6. What I have a hard time understanding is why Thrash never contributed any great new music outside of The Orb and FFWD, if he was the genius behind all these classic Orb tracks. Strange eh? You would think he had it in him to compose amazing music and release it to the world under his own name.
  7. Without Patterson and The Orb, who would know Thrash? I understand his feelings, but come on. It's like those engineers saying Steve Jobs can't code. Alright, he can't code, but he has created Apple. The same goes for The Orb. Of course, Alex doesn't do it all. But he is the guy behind The Orb. He is The Orb. He deserves credit where it is due.
  8. Colundi Sequence 4 reminds me of Jeff Mills' cosmic-oriented last few albums, such as The Jungle Planet, The Messenger, The Power, etc. Very minimal, pure sounding, repetitive, abstract, looping techno. I don't really get much of a Plastikman feeling though, but I see where you're coming from, Stephen.
  9. Glad to read your post. Maybe the album has a wider appeal than I thought and that's great. I love it! But I can also understand that others can't see what's so special about this album. It's a very dated album for one thing. It's possible to look at it from different perspectives. To each his own story with afx. Any fave tracks?
  10. If Richard died tomorrow, what would happen to those archives?
  11. I don't think anyone saying this is breathtaking is saying it according to 2014's electronic music standards. You have to contextualize the album to enjoy it. It probably was made between 85 and 93. Within that frame of time, it is breathtaking music. And for old-school fans from the 90's, it's a great nostalgic experience. What is so annoying about that?
  12. A2-Stomper 101mod Detunekik has become another favorite. Mischievous alien acid groove.
  13. It's all so very subjective... I prefer it to Compilation because it has a wider scope. More variation, more thought through, sounds more "produced". But is it better? I wouldn't know. Let's wait a few years and see how it grows on us.
  14. Nowadays, most super underground abstract noise cassettes limited to 25 copies, pressed by some obscure figure and shipped from some unknown region of the world will end up being uploaded on a blog somewhere or on a torrent website. Now, when it comes to Aphex Twin, a living legend, what did you expect? :)
  15. What's wrong with the track titles? Everything was fine in iTunes, unless something escapes me?
  16. Of course, well-known artists should all release their albums like that. We don't need labels and distributors and physical stores anymore.
  17. Haha and of course, Youtube will never have any problem with American authorities, while Kim Dotcom is still waiting for a fair trial, two years after his home was raided as a military operation and all his personal assets were frozen. We live in a strange world.
  18. How about Fingertrips? Nice vibes and groovy. Wow nice setting for a listening session!
  19. This is so different from Compilation, kind of a softer side of Caustic. The production also feels more mature. Dunno if they have remastered it, but it sounds great considering where the files come from.
  20. Well, some people are programmed to complain about everything they have and everything they don't have. It's never up to their standards. Always too expensive, never good enough. Too bad for them. Let's enjoy this album anyway! It's great to see so much positive feedback from the fans.
