  1. See, though, wiring it up every time is the whole point of my current configuration. :) I'm keeping all the gear I'm not using (and by "using" I mean that it's on and doing something) on a bookshelf. Only stuff I feel like playing with at any given moment is on the table, except Minidisc and 4-track recorder and an ancient laptop I'm only using to edit my micro modular. I got a patch bay a few years ago and I ended up not using it much. In retrospect it just slowed me down & forced me to memorize yet another thing. But now, rerouting is as simple as could be. This kind of setup isn't for everyone, obviously, but for someone as fickle as I am, it's very fun. I only wish I would've tried it sooner.
  2. I'm not even bothering with tiers, I've just got everything flat on a table. If I get sick of it, it goes back on the shelf.
  3. After my music computer went tits up a weekish ago, I rearranged the lab in order to shift to a no-permanent-routings paradigm. Wow. I feel like a teenager again, just having a great time doing whatever random ass shit I feel like every day. I might try to tidy it up a bit and take some pictures.
  4. Very nice. What's the black thing next to the 707?

 I don't even know what "overproduced" means. The first time I heard that criticism was from my dad after listening to Orbital's "In Sides", which basically makes no fucking sense in that context.

    draft 7.30

I admire this album but I don't really enjoy it that much. Awesome textures and atmosphere but not much to sink my teeth into. A couple of thrilling, fleeting moments but not much rhythmic propulsion, not much heft. Luckily for me, I haven't overplayed it, so there's still lots to explore here. It probably feels more spacious than their other albums, and I'd say it feels like a natural environment like a forest more than their other albums. It's interesting that a few people mentioned the beats. They seem to be intended for some purpose besides dancing or head nodding. They aren't as hypnotic as on other albums; the repetition is more like musique concrete than hip hop or techno. This is true for Confield even more. I don't think it's a coincidence that Untilted was so beat-oriented after these two albums. Also, I'd say this album feels more like a movie, especially a Kubrick movie, than any of their others. LP5 has some of this feel too.

THis reminds me of when the Moby track 'Thousand' was in the Guinness Book of World Records for having 'the highest BPM in recorded music'... When it just sounds like just cranked the BPM knob a few times over an otherwise uneventful techno track... Ah well; I suppose he could've feasibly been the first one to do it. Have to say, this track was fucking awesome!* *it was 2003 when I heard it, I was 13 and knew very little about how electronic music was made. Fixed. Hmm, that was the same year Draft 7.30 came out.... Deploy cheap trick to an extreme degree on a lukewarm pop song: Sell tons of records, get a world record entry. Create a mindbending, complex, mysterious record that references: Sell tens of thousand records to some nerds and give them something to talk about on the internet. Must be the hair. Oh wait, you were talking about the Moby track. Nevermind.

I just think BT sucks and I don't believe it's my "fault" for feeling this way. The same way I think Pizza Hut sucks. There is just better pizza out there FFS and I don't want to waste my time or money on the shitty stuff, as long as I have the choice.

I didn't say anything about vocals. I like plenty of music with vocals.

OK I am sorry to resurrect this thread but I just wanted to say I find it incredibly obnoxious and arrogant when people assume if you don't like something that's popular, that it's only because it's popular. It couldn't possibly be because it's a stinking piece of shit and the person making the assumption just has bad taste. Had to get that off my chest. Done now.
  12. Whoa, I somehow missed this. Fucking tasty, thank you!
  13. that's actually all you can do... because the future hasn't happened yet. know the past. imagine the future. lol :)
  14. OMG I would die. IDM renaissance.
  15. Yep, his stuff still oozes style in a way very few can touch. That goes for many of his modules too - he did more with 50k of samples and sequences than probably anyone here can do with a DAW full of VSTs or a room full of hardware.
  16. http://pouet.net/gro...0&order=release (or is that not what you meant ?) Check this also: http://scene.org/dir.php?dir=/music/artists/dune/ Even more here: http://amp.dascene.net/detail.php?detail=modules&view=2313 He also did the music for those insane 4k demos Quite did after they used his tracks in a couple videos. Dude is one of my heroes ffs. Right up there with Autechre and AFX.
  17. Yeah especially since I gave some real thought to his track before I commented. :(
  18. Still working on The Pale King... it's been like 3 months now, jeez. I am not a swift reader.
  19. Your use of the past tense is inappropriate. And posts like that are annoying as fuck, like when Joyrex would flaunt his BOC connections without ever saying what they were about. That is just showing off, or lying -- you pick. Sometimes the ease with which WATMM can be trolled makes me sad.
  20. (waits another 11 months to ask about downloading these again)
  21. I believe the Japanese pronunciation of the logo on her shirt is "shitgo".
