I really don't see dubstep going toward everyone ripping off Burial...maybe more like old Vex'd(with a lot of stuff coming out of the U.S., Shift and Rottun records, etc) and Martyn(esp. Martyn, actually).

I actually do like that Starkey album more than I expected to(I wasn't into a lot of his singles that came out before). And also, just like everyone else, really into Joker right now...

If anything, I'd say I'm more indifferent to Neil Landstrumm...his music does very little/nothing for me. With that said, I haven't heard the new album.

The new Pinch on Tectonic is fantastic. Also, I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but TheWiddler...that's some real new style right there.

So what were some watmm folks favorite dubstep tracks this year?

Good idea, would love to get an idea of what other people dug this year. Dubstep kind of split into two camps this year, the more traditional one steeped in dub music and reggae, and the fusion with Basic Channel techno which is more what I've been into this year. Not sure if some of these are even considered dubstep but these were some of my favorites from 2008.

2562 - Basin Dub

Appleblim & Peverelist - Circling (Bass Clef Remix)

Badawi - Den Of Drumz (Kode 9 Remix)

Benga - Electro Scratch

Blackpocket - Ure A Star (Martyn Remix)

Clouds - Shallow

Deadbeat - Incinerate

Forsaken - Last Saloon Swagger

Geiom - Hydropine

Harmonic 313 - Dirtbox

Headhunter - Birks Range

Ital Tek - Archaic

Joker - Holly Brook Park

Kode 9 - Konfusion Dub

Luke Envoy - M.U.G.E.N.

Martyn - Natural Selection

Meat Beat Manifesto - Children Of Earth

Millie & Andrea - Black Hammer

Peverelist - Roll With Punches

Pole - Alles Klar

Scuba - Twitch (Vex'd Remix)

Shackleton - Death Is Not Final

Shut Up And Dance - Epileptic (Martyn Remix)

Virus Syndicate - Be Like Us

hehehehe, alright alright, I'll snag it after work and give it a whirl. Maybe I'll like it more than the last...

for what it's worth I never cared much for any of his previous releases... this new one's a different story though. at least check out the tracks "transmission" and "old rabbits".
