How'd you go about getting off the booze? I was thinking about doing something similar.

Tips Tricks Strategies?

To be honest man, there wasn't really much of a trick....It just sorta clicked one day....I gradually knocked myself down from drinking all night to drinking twice, then once a week, and i remember one day I woke up and poured myself a nice shot of cheap whiskey, and realized I didnt really want it all that much....ended up pourin the bottle down a drain and haven't really looked back....

there were times when my friend offered to buy me a beer, and id oblige, but id only really sip about a quarter of it and not bother after that.

I guess the only tips I can offer you really is to keep busy...Ive been working 60 hour weeks and i dont think about it much...by the time i get home I just want to eat something small and then sleep....drinking at night is what used to get me....id suggest working out or running a little bit, do something to get the adrenaline up then you wont need to get highed up on liquor.....thats my advice I guess...not the greatest, but stay positive and keep busy.

Way to go SR4- congrats on the MA, I thought of you whilst fighting as Tommy Hearns in Final night 4 the other night.

LOL I just ordered that game from amazon.com without even reading a review....Hearns is on it? Thats my first playthrough right there.

That's great news - now, get rid of the ciggies, and you'll feel like a million bucks more! (not to mention the cash saved). In fact, one of the methods of 'positive reinforcement' I've read about kicking the cigarette habit was to take the money you normally spend in a week/month on cigarettes, and funnel that into a savings account or a jar on your counter, and then after a month of not smoking, count the cash - seeing how much money you piss away on the nasty things (and having that cash in hand) really makes an impact on some people.

Keep up the good changes to your life and never look back!

I've been sober for about 12 hours.

Not too many great things happening in my life right now, but some of my friends' bands are getting noticed, so that's a good thing, since they could potentially get me on tour as a sound guy.

my uncle did something like this: he took all the money he normally would have spent on cigs and saved it for a vacation.

Well done SR4 I couldn't manage it without the programme of AA, but I'm an alcoholic so that figures, keep up the good work mate, I'm proud of you, it's not easy, alcoholic or not.

it's for a certain type of person who's idea of feeling good on drugs is being on the verge of passing out

Congrats indeed! I'm weening myself off booze this month myself, just because I drank so much I'm afraid I might get the DTs if I go cold-turkey. Plan is to quit entirely by August. I like the idea of putting the money I would use aside as another incentive.

However I've not got plans to quit weed/cigs just yet. Guess I should start planning phase two.
