Ridley Scott for Alien 5

Whilst it's a story that probably doesn't need to be told, original Alien Director Ridley Scott has confirmed he'll be stepping in to take the reins on Alien 5. The story is set to a prequel, which will be about how the alien craft that crash landed on the planet in the original movie came to be there.

I'm kind of meh about this, as the mystique of that ship and how it came to be there might be best left to the imagination. Still, Scott as the helm, rather than some hack, can only be a good thing.

Scott USED to be a good director, but now he's fallen into that 'hack' category, and this movie will probably prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt. It's like when Lucas decided to direct all the prequel Star Wars movies; note that the best Star Wars movie (Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back) was NOT directed by him...

I guess Scott hasn't directed anything great for a while, but I think he might do alright with this. I can't see him making a balls up on a par with the SW prequels.

He's about to fuck up Robin Hood...

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000631/

It can't be worse than the Kevin Costner Robin Hood.

Remember Alexander? If anybody can, this man can.

First of all, Ridley Scott had nothing to do with Oliver Stone's Alexander.

Secondly, he's still making great films.

Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, Body of Lies...American Gangster was disappointing, but it wasn't terrible.

Whoops - there's so many highly-regarded directors these days losing their shit, I got mixed up. Sorry!

Black Hawk Down was alright, I'll give you that... the other three were shite though.

Last goddamned movie this man did right - and it almost destroyed him.

People are so underestimating that Lucas' A New Hope is a superb movie of the highest caliber, it's like people saying "Godfather 2 > 1". Well yeah, but it's not like the first one sucks. Same for Episode 4. I mean it's STAR WARS. Nobody can dis the original one.

Anyway going back to Ridley, the long version of Kingdom of Heaven is great. He still has it, he just needs a good script.

That's his problem (lack of quality assurance in the script he directs his films with), and something many people underweight. People don't get how the script makes or breaks a movie. There is no good movie that has a bad script, it only becomes a flashing director's work, but nothing more. But there are bad movies with good scripts.
