I have always wanted to experience one of these.. where you are dreaming.. but aware of it and in control. I feel that I have done this on occasion but it was fleeting.

I also have trouble remembering my dreams. they fade quickly from memory when I wake up. anyone else have trouble with this?

I had several lucid dreams a few years ago. Then I randomly had one a year ago, and nothing since. Pretty frustrating.

lucid dreaming is gay

Lucid dreaming or astral projection or whatever you want to call it isn't as hard as it seems. It's just a matter of being relaxed and focused, which may require some practice if you're unused.

What i find helps most is two techniques, the first called snap. Decide what you want to do. Lie down, relax completely and imagine yourself in a field, on a hill, whatever. Find things you can feel with your five senses, walking around in the grass, smelling the grass, feeling the wind, etc.

After about 10 minutes, snap out of it and focus on your goal alone. After about five minutes you should be projecting. But fear can have a strong grip and keep you from doing it.

The second one is simply spinning. Imagine a simple object like a cube or an apple spinning clockwise in 3D, after a while, feel yourself spinning with it. Don't spin too fast or you're going to get sick.

It took a month or two or of practicing before I first experienced any lucid dreaming, and about six months before I experienced projecting out of body, so keep at it.

lucid dreaming is one of my favorite things to do

check out www.dreamviews.com

great forum with lots of info and methods on how to do it

That was once an interesting board and I used to post, then some jackass admins went and banned half the forum. Don't bother with that site.

The film Waking Life (by Richard Linklater) has quite a few tips in it, and is also lots of other interesting thoughts about dreaming, physical awareness, consciousness, unconsciousness etc

yah i've seen this and liked it. his other film Slacker is also reminiscent of this and quite good

i have actually tried this before http://www.erowid.org/plants/calea_zacatechichi/ which didn't do shit for me and making tea out of it is the nastiest most godawful substance i have ever had the chance to taste

gonna check that website next

calea hasn't been successful for me either. The only chemical i've taken that has a noticeable effect on lucid dreams is caffeine. It usually only works if you're about to take a nap or you have interrupted a long night's sleep.

if you are about to nap you will immediately enter REM sleep, but if you are sleeping normally you have to wake up 4-5 hours into the normal sleep cycle and do it. I would recommend a small amount of coffee or soda, not a caffeine pill. If you take more than 50mg, it's too much you will probably wake up. There are varying techniques for the next step but what i would do is after i would ingest my beverage, immediately lie down to sleep. In my head i would count as as high as i could starting from 1. You will notice hypnagognia taking over, and it will be very difficult to keep a steady count at this point but you have to fight it, and by fight it i mean focusing on counting sequentially.

If you do it for long enough and are able to maintain focus you will enter a dream state while still conscious. Some people find the experience of going directly into a lucid dream very pleasurable almost orgasmic while others find it panic inducing and terrifying. Your brain will try to play tricks on you, the 'fade' from reality to a dream will be filled with distractions ie loud wooshing sounds, shadow figures running around, a malformed version of your bedroom, scary voices, loud bangs. I haven't done this in years but i hope to kick my lucid dreaming habits into high gear soon.

I am of the opinion that when people refer to astral projection they are really talking about wake-initiated lucid dreaming

They're supposed to help with magnetics involved in lucid dreaming. Robert monroe recommended lying with your head to the north because of the earths magnetic field. personally I don't think it has anything to do with the actual ability itself

I only appear to be able to use my lucid dreaming skills for bad and end up shagging folks.

this is not abnormal, a lot of my lucid dreams are like a sinister version of myself wrecking havoc in some form, kind of like a grand theft auto 4 with god/debug mode

sounds like the shit you see when you have sleep paralysis - I didn't particularly enjoy it though

part of WILD is entering sleep paralysis manually.. it's an interesting experience, feeling your limbs freeze up bit by bit

lucid dream thread #1203

the technique that always worked for me was waking myself up three quarters through a normal sleep. asking myself a series of 4 simple questions and answering them out loud; with "am i dreaming? .. yes" last. repeat a couple times, go back to sleep and eventually the questions will reoccur in your now vivid dreams, triggering an awareness. it's hard for some, i know i used panic when first realizing, not in a frightened way but i would become so excited i usually woke myself up. it's a weird feeling to describe. like cuming without the mess. this morning i was fairly lucid; i shoved my face in the bum of a girl bent over wearing booty shorts and took a large whiff.

the technique that works for me the best is setting your ipod on some speakers, and have the alarm play a short little ambient song (i like to set it to ilkae, flore or sink lateral), set it about 4 - 5 hours after you go to sleep and when it wakes you up don't move at all and keep your eyes closed and go back into the dream you were just in. you just try to picture it in your head, where you were, just imagine it, don't think about anything else. this technique works best for me, i've had almost 50 lucid dreams since starting may of last year, which is pretty decent.

keeping a dream journal is probably the most important thing though

Ah! Interesting... I have never had a lucid dream, however, when I take naps during the day, as I am waking up, I hear astral music. I keep trying to adapt what I hear in the form of song but it is much too complex and interesting for me to properly convey, given my meager skillset. Great thread! I think I am going to like it here.
i am about to get my first tattoo, a tool to help me lucid dream

Interesting! Could you explain how the tattoo will help facilitate the lucid dreams?

I have had some sick dreams on opium as well, although I don't know if I could call them lucid. whats worst is waking up and knowing you were in something interesting and not being able to recall specific details

I have entered or "woken" in some sort of sleep paralysis though and semi paniced not being able to control my own body. it doesn't happen often but I guess I could learn to get used to it if I need to

I didn't think you were serious with that magnetic bed..

not sure what this is actually

I really wish I could lucid dream....About a month ago I vaguely remember realizing that I was in a dream, and the first thing I tried to do was wake up so I could write it all down, but every time I "woke up" I was merely entering a slightly different dream.

If I could do it regularly I'd probably try to create music, kind of SAW2 sounding. But that's just me. Thanks for the posts, I'll read up on some of these techniques later
