Midi Lag
by Guest idrn- 3 replies
been having some trouble with my brothers new drum kit. basically the modules sounds are obviously shite so i hooked the midi out into a edirol UA-8 audio/midi doodah. now i know there is lag when things are too cpu intensive and this can be rectified by changing the buffering etc... but there was a 500ms or so delay from the hit and just a single sound being triggered in battery, hardly rinsing my resources. really frustrating because i had all these big plans for setting up envelope/midisequence triggering super kits, the soundcard is also asio - so i dont know how i can rectify this other than upgrading from my 2ghz, 1gb ram (which i cant even guarantee will make …

mapping midi controller channels to ableton/reason
by Guest idrn- 3 replies
at the moment i have to activate/deactivate my midi controller in each program when i want to swap and play a synth in the other. i can't have it activated at the same time in both programs. so what's the best/most efficient way to get around this? ideally i would like to have a seperate midi channel for each prog, so i can just press a button to swap. but if theres some way of having dual drivers working, that'de be fine too. oops - move to EKT plz mods.

Just bought myself one of these babies from Spectral Audio  http://www.spectralaudio.ch/neptuneII.htm What's it got to do with BoC? ....... erm ......... it's blue! Actually f**k all really, but this place is so dull with any lack of exciting new BoC news (apart from the nonsense about their website being update with a .jpeg) I thought I'd just post any old hoo ha.

So I just installed Reason 4, all excited to get play with all the new toys and i just found out that they removed one of my favorite features!!! no longer can i midi map the step length on the ReDrum! why oh why would they take out something so simple?! it was bad enough that you couldn't automate it, but now you can't even map it! every thin lse is still mappable, and new stuff too. why remove functionality? WHY?!?!?! fuck you, propellerheads! ok after fuckng around some more, i've discovered that i can recreate this with the combinator and thor

I'm very curious about these. I know there are dozens of models and that the old ones are usually preferred over the newer q-chords, but that's about it... besides a bunch of famous musicians used them. can anyone weigh in?

Oh great EKTs of WATMM 1 2 3
by Guest Rogueofmv- 56 replies

And I've wanted to ever since I was 14... it's been a dream of mine ever since I broke away from the mainstream in 2004. Originally, it was trip-hop that turned me on to electronica as an umbrella genre, but now I see so much more in every facet of the musical realm! So, I ask you, the professionals, the "simple" question: How can I get started, when I have absolutely no knowledge or experience with the equipment?

http://idiron.kaen.org/BASTARD.rns turns out i'm not willing to give up so easily - apparantly you can send their tech support a reason file from the site and they'll see what they can do. this is my last resort. again, much much reward and gratitude to whoever can do this!!

Bad habits
by Guest meneedit- 8 replies

What sort of bad habits have you fallen into with music composition???? One of mine is that I seem to start every track with just a beat, whereas when I first started making music I used all the different starters. i.e -Just a melody -Melody and beat -Just a beat -FX Anyway, tell me about something you wish you didn't do with your songs.

Release time
by Guest meneedit- 6 replies
no matter how many times I read up on compressors and how many times I experiment with the fl compressor I still cant grasp the release time. for example: The attack time is how many MiliSeconds the unaffected signal gets thru before being compressed.... fine... i understand that.... but now the release. I dont understand what happens with the release. here's some things I would like to know... The maximum release time for the FL compressor is 4 seconds (i think), then the audio snaps back to being uncompressed... but what happens if I want to compress something for more than 4 seconds (if it is a long synth or something)??? Also, I need to u…

Saving ZGR files
by Guest meneedit- 0 replies
Hi guys! I hate it how the FL beatslicer doesnt allow you to export your own ZGR files. Is there a freeware plugin that will allow me to do this? I want to save a zgr that I create over a rex file then import it over a wav file. the reason for this is so that I can take the beat into audition to do my own editing. unless of course there is a rex plugin for audition. either way HEEEEEEEEEELLLLP MEEEEEEEE!!

Tuning Your Beats
by Guest Helper ET- 7 replies

Do you get your kicks and snares from an 808, your hats from a 909, and your tom from your sister's cousin's best friends' daughters' tom that you sampled at a party one night So you've you put all these tracks together, years in the making, only to realize later in life what exactly music IS, how sound behaves, and how the mind interprets it. All of your music has beats that are out of key with your song. Well when you add beats from a song into say, some synth thing, most of the time, they are left in their original state, and the samples are just inserted without much further thought, at least for me, and until about 2 or 3 years ago, I was unaware of my out of tu…

my planned budget is about 2000 bucks, with which i want a good pc laptop (no macbook you fags) and external firewire soundcard.. core2duo 2ghz, 2gig RAM, 200gig hdd at least. a good screen, 17" ? portability isnt a huge factor. i'm considering a sony vaio AR51J, and a mackie onyx satellite. my current setup is 2 tannoy 8d's and a mackie 1402vlz. i'll probably sell the mixer. i need a good mic preamp and at least one line in. opinions plz

thinking of abandoning mac/osx for pc/win
by Guest aeser- 4 replies
i still love macs, still think they're slightly more stable than windows/pc's, still love the layout of the operating system, and audio units and everything. not as psyched as to how osx is slower on the same hardware as windows, nor in opengl sucking ass at games compared to direct x, nor the few and far between yet still unnessesarily annoying compatibility issues. bottom line is it's just a fucking computer, and i can just do everything with my pc and not use my macs at all. as i currently have 2 macs and 2 pc's (which is kind of retarded since 2 is enough for my wife and i) i'm not exactly planning on selling or getting rid of my mac's just trying to ween myself …
