Three things: 1. I witnessed the OP get banned on CHATMM back in 2013 for making a flimsy coup attempt. 2. Sexual relations between therapist and client? What the fuck am I reading 3. Eugene is on point.

Now That Trump's President... (not any more!)
ambermonk replied to Nebraska's topic in General Banter
I applaud the real journalists still trudging through this shit, as a lefty and intellectual I find myself listening to BBC more often than even NPR sometimes...they often shoot themselves in the foot by getting too subjective and leading. It's hard for me even to stay informed when no one who I want to influence (misguided friends and family) will care or listen. Objective journalism and news reporting is the biggest victim to all of this. WaPo and NYT are struggling as formats because it's so much more lucrative to go the way of CNN, MSNBC, etc. - all of who are trying to keep up with FOX and every right-wing rag. In the era of open info and free speech outlets, more people are succumbing to authoritarian propaganda and nationalist, populist drivel. “In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” Damn it I hate when Orwell is accurate- 22,233 replies

As with all things in life; good, solid work takes time. Mueller's investigation is no exception.- 22,233 replies

Looking back at these earlier posts, it reminds me that April thru May 2013 was kind of a weird time for WATMM. Anyway, five years later the second half of 1 1 is still gives me the 'orn. -

Well the Putin regime knows that the GOP will cause a lot of damage domestically. They figure if there's an effective way to weaken a decades-long adversary, bolstering their most reckless political party would be the most tactical option. At least in theory.- 22,233 replies

Guess I should've known where Assange's allegiance lied this whole time. Seems ironic though considering when he first made the news in April 2010 with that leaked chopper footage of Iraq from 2007, when they gunned down those civilians because they thought one of them had a shoulder-launched SAM, when it turned out to be a large video camera. Also, Assange supposedly hasn't addressed basic personal hygiene in a long time, last I heard.- 22,233 replies

I finally have running hot water at home again, after three months of total water heater failure. Wasn't cheap though.

What irks me most about the budget is how goddamn inefficient it is. Most 4 star generals in post-war history with the fewest active duty personal in service. We spent crazy amounts in the cold war but with far more operational readiness. We're still engaged in the longest wars in US history. All while our military is riddled with corruption, no-bid contracts, cronyism, etc. Ike's worse dreams came true. And I feel like in the past 12 years even as low-level NAF employee at my base, I've witnessed wasteful spending first hand, time and time again. Not that I aspire to be POTUS one day, but if it were up to me, every one of our bases overseas would be closed and the property returned to the rightful owner that is the host nation. Okinawa (not necessarily all of Japan, but still semi-autonomous) is one of the most glaring examples of this. And if we're to seek out total nuclear disarmament worldwide, we should be the first to do so. And from that point onward, our military should have a strictly self-defense role. Probably sounds too idealistic, and I'd be naive to think that day would ever come. But for the long run we're still fairly early into the 21st Century.- 22,233 replies

Carlin had a firm grasp of the larger picture. It's easy to get trapped into partisan political squabble with other people not in the Elite club, but the ones that are in it use this division to their advantage. And with Trump wanting to inflate our already bloated military budget and cut everything else that actually helps people...I just hate the bastard.- 22,233 replies

The FBI and DoJ have been long before Trump arrived. I don't approve of some rich motherfucker with no prior political experience suddenly coming in and declaring himself king, trying to smash our foundations in the process and proclaim himself as the sole authority. Anyway, not to sound like a broken record, but it goes without saying that we're ultimately at the mercy of Mueller's investigation and the November 6th midterms.- 22,233 replies

I used to regularly visit Philly with the fam when I was a kid, and go on school field trips there. But this was back in '93 to '96. Way things are going now it sounds like, it's in a state of full retard. The Franklin Institute was one of my favorite spots there back in the day. -

Gotta admit though, the geezer is well-armed. I swear he owns like 50 different guns. Dunno how the hell he managed to accumulate so many though. -
I keep seeing Rick and Morty T-shirts advertised on my FB feed, even though I don't watch the show. Is it just me or do fans automatically feel intellectually superior to non-fans? I mean, do Neil DeGrasse Tyson or Stephen Hawking watch the show? The goal of education and scientific awareness should be progress and self-enlightenment, not hubris and self-righteousness. Just my opinion.

Holy shit. I coincidentally posted a pic of Judge Doom to a FB friend's post of that vid. Apparently I wasn't the only one who was reminded of that character as the first thought.- 22,233 replies
