  1. Been there, it’s uncanny as fuck, saved by a Cracker Barrel breakfast. Virginia has so much Civil War history too, unique landscapes. There are times it weighs heavy in the air. The estates of previous independence era leaders that are in the region semi-preserved. McCarthy’s “the shadowed agony in the garden” is an apt comparison. Add the military industrial presence. Lot of jerrbs.
  2. Pics of Mum pls Ding, peak-era preferably
  3. Tag on, have you heard Goran Bregovic? Think Borat sampled pieces: The geese and the mud feature in Time of the Gypsies. When the film opens to that wedding, the faces alone are a world in themselves.
  4. With Kusturica’s filems, I love the anarchy and chaos. The geese everywhere. The brass bands. The mud. Brilliant characters, genius casting, so their worlds fully open up to a non Yugoslav. The Maradona thing is such a sideways look at a football icon too. Gonna have to rewatch a few of these, thread has convinced it’s been far too long.
  5. Quality filem, Kusturica hit a golden streak for a while. Underground is mental & Time of the Gypsies (sp?) is one of my favourite filems of all. Pirated them all for the subs, I can’t imagine dubbed versions. That’d really crack their magic.
  6. I can take or leave them. Some of it’s pretentious bs, but others are transcendental, bit like a noisier, more abrasive, dissonant H3O (with clear & obv differences). Put some of these tracks links up in the Noise thread before, but that’s a lot of hunting for a Sunday to repost.
  7. Isn’t this the objective?
  8. It’s because ok boomer was followed by a culling of the elderly, squaring the circle
  9. I’d take sad over broken glass lungs.
  10. Drug Science’s pod (run by David Nutt) has done a recent 3 parter on veterans and ptsd treatment options. One discussion highlighted that more US veterans who served in recent conflicts have now died by suicide than were killed during active service in Iraq.
  11. you know with Caze it's only Scouse lives that matter
  12. Really long hair. Must have driven past the barbers a hundred times prior to lockdown thinking “get a haircut hippy”, but left it. Missus is nagging now not to get it cut, claiming she’s ninja with shears trimming the back. Yeah love, you couldn’t even give it an even no3 the only time I asked. Hairy.
  13. A ‘Rooseveltian’ recovery is coming, phew, glad that’s sorted https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/jun/30/boris-johnson-vows-to-act-fast-to-fix-economy-in-wake-of-coronavirus
  14. @timbre monke Seems a matter of time before that ends up a bloodbath. Had some amazing times in the US. A few prize cunts like anywhere, but overall very, very welcoming. However, from someone who lived among you, your future looks bleak with brand token gestures for appearance's sake. 100,000 plus covid deaths & counting, with a surge of grief immediate friends & families. Age old civil rights compromised by systems of financial segregation & an explosion of compressed, centuries old rage. Completely fragmented benefit & healthcare systems. An education system that wastes so much talent it beggars belief. Police that the world is seeing with a mixture of horror & good ol' fascination. And it can get much worse before the systems improve. Your election could be both the making & the breaking of the chance for real change on the surface, but that's a veneer. The scar tissue of trauma in the country's past & present tightens the fabric of tension. It seems fibrous, binding, reducing agency. Who cares how many Nordstrom Racks there are within a square mile? I dunno, this joint kicked my arse.
  15. if you were a kid in Britain in the late 70's & early 80's Mary Millington was THE gateway drug to to the mysteries of the vagina. Joan Collins took up the softcore titty titles with The Bitch & The Stud later. None of it has aged well, unless yer doing a PhD in retro-sexualism & massive bushes.
