Great second episode. I'm so glad this isn't some Netflix or Amazon Prime thing. I would have binge watched this whole thing already. Totally addictive TV.

Episode 2 has been released early apparently so that HBO don't have to clash with the Presidential debate. http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/774073-westworld-episode-2-released-early-by-hbo#/slide/1

Worst idea in the history of film. Like trying to make a sequel to Citizen Kane.

There is a nice airy, atmospheric synth that begins about the 16 min mark when they are first discussing the reveries.

Ah. you're right. Just watched that again. Still, Westworld is almost a comment on real life. The ugly people, those that don't shape up (physically or mentally) are kept out of the way. In this case, down in the basement areas.

All the women in the show are really fucking hot. No surprise really. It's television. HBO aren't going to drop a hundred million on a TV show and fill it with ugly people. Just sayin.

It really does sound like that. Just a selection of notes rearranged from Game Of Thrones. I think they should have hired someone else or let the composer decide instead of playing it safe. It's really the only criticism I have of the show.

Yeah, I don't like the opening theme at all. Doesn't fit the show.

The main score is composed by the same guy responsible for Game Of Thrones. That's either a good thing or bad thing depending on whether or not you like his work.

His earlier work (even the novels written under another name) have that technology gone wrong vibe. Even his first book 'Odds On' (1966) has a group of criminals use a computer with Critical Path Analyis to plan a robbery but it all goes wrong.

I didn't enjoy State Of Fear back in the day. It seemed like soapbox antics with the author pushing his own views on climate change a bit too transparently within the confines of the story. I thought it was one of his laziest novels - a series of set pieces that served only as vehicle for Crichton's own agenda.

Westworld is very interesting because the original movie features a lot of ideas and concepts that would find their way into Jurassic Park when Crichton wrote it some eighteen years later. I think he is was pretty obsessed with technology being essentially uncontrollable and totally unpredictable even though we claim to have a hold of things.

Yeah it's visually stunning. Solid cast. I can't see how it can fail. Production budget is $1,000,000 an episode apparently. That's Game Of Thrones territory. .

I've seen the 70s movie many times and am a huge Crichton fan. Anybody else watched the first episode? I thought it was awesome. Actually watched it twice - made more sense and had some nice moments I didn't appreciate on first viewing.

Oh wow. That track is utterly gorgeous. It needs to be 80 mins not 8.

"The events that took place in the year will also be part of the storyline. The pieces will be put together as the series goes on. Duffer also revealed that Steven Spielberg and Stephen King’s work influenced the show, and the next season is more like a sequel." Influenced the show? They were the show. Fucking lol.

I can totally see people not being really taken with it. For me it's just the choice of samples, they aren't blended with original material - the samples are the material but they are somehow reinvented, invested with a sense of other-worldly grandeur that goes far beyond their original worth. Listening to 'Tender Age' is like witnessing some secret revelation on the nature of time and its transience - and yet all I'm really listening to is a clever bit of sampling from something as lame and shallow as the Back Street Boys.
