  1. I think the MediaFired™ album 'The Pathway Through Whatever' is the best vaporwave I've ever heard. A track like 'Tender Age' that just takes a simple loop sample of 'Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way' and somehow makes it sound almost like some religious revelation is just stunning. For me, vaporwave works best when it takes some tiny little moment and invests it with something far beyond its original worth.

    Cheetah EP

They're taking the piss because it's Aphex. They know people will lap that shit up whatever the cost.
  3. Everyone is gonna have their own album of the year. GOD was very good if you're a real fan of his work but I thought it underwhelming. I couldn't get past those those clap-trap vocals he used to ruined otherwise decent tracks. By far and away the best thing on GOD was the bonus track 'The Knuckleheads'. I played that many times. The rest ranged from meh to okay. Most of it I never bothered with after about a week. 2015 was a poor year for electronic stuff, at least for me. Very few of my favourite artists released albums. My favourite thing of 2015 was actually a 4 track EP - MBM on Skam. That was killer. If it hadn't been for that, I dunno what what would have held my attention. I think a lot of people like OPN's GOD but it was really no more than an average album in a poor year of music - at least for me.

    TWIN PEAKS

I'm not that excited for this now. Have any of you watched the new X-Files stuff? It seems weirdly out of place and time now. I loved it as a younger guy in my mid twenties but there is something not quite right with it now. They have commendablly stuck to the format but as a result the new episodes seem like something left over from another era. I have a feeling the same thing will happen for Twin Peaks.

    TIDAL

    Massive fuck-up by Tidal. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/28/arts/music/rihanna-new-album-anti-leak-tidal.html?partner=rss&emc=rss
  6. I didn't find it gripping. It was an enjoyable album for a week or two but certainly no masterpiece. YMMV.
  7. Still digging this but those tinny claptrap vocals - they kind of ruin many of the tracks. I'd love to hear No Good without it sounding like it's been remixed by Kanye West or Hudson M. As a whole album, I still prefer R+7 and Replica but this one is okay - just not earth shattering as some seem to have found it. Nobody seems to have talked much about the artwork - I think it's the best cover I've seen in ages. Probably the only artist Warp have signed in the last five years that's actually decent. It's time they picked up VHS Head.
  8. Massive thread so I couldn't check if this was already posted.
  9. I'm enjoying it. Don't care much for those vocals on some tracks. They remind me of Hudson Mohawke all that radio one claptrap. Bonus track is the best thing, IMO. Not sure about all the praise being heaped on it but it's a good album. Not the best thing I've heard all year though.
  10. Just had my first listen to this. The hour or so flew buy. The Japanese bonus track - WTF - That bell chime goodness - how did that get left off other editions? Great upbeat ending.
  11. Just in case anyone is interested, the Japanese release is in a few hours. You can get 16bit and 24bit editions below if you haven't already ordered from Warp. http://ototoy.jp/top/ They always have the new Warp stuff. I've ordered from them a few times now - Syro, Reachy Prints.
  12. FLAC has leaked now. Gonna wait for the 24bit from Bleep. It's only another two weeks or so.
  13. On a side note, you have to question what kind of half-assed record label lets this happen. I mean Warp aren't some small time outfit. This has happened before so I was very surprised they'd let one of their biggest artists fall prey to this. i wonder if Daniel will put his trust in them again. They seem really ameteurish to have let this happen.
  14. without the leak it would be still distributed everywhere for free, just on the release date. Yeah, I know. It's just.. seems like a lot of people probably had some whole set of promo plans and now that's just back-fired.
  15. Feel sorry for Daniel. It's a shame if you worked on something for months and then have it distributed for free. Still, I think the whole three month cock tease was a stupid idea and is symptomatic of where media is now. I think some of these artists should just do like Bowie did back a while ago, just suddenly release a new album with no hype. At the end of the day, if your stuff is good, it will sell. You don't need a three month hype machine. I wonder what Warp are thinking right now? That was probably going to be their biggest seller of the year. Not now, though.
  16. Three months on and I'm still playing this almost all the time. Must be some kind of record for me. Release of the year so far.
