so you think lynch and the ceo of showtime deliberately pretended that they couldn't come to an agreement about the budget just so they could build hype 2 years in advance? has lynch done anything even remotely close to that before in the anticipation of a project to build hype, or do you think he just decided to start now? Sure. I mean we live in the social media age. There was never any way this wasn't going to get made. It just feels like a calculated bit of PR. I fully expect more things like key cast members dropping out due to creative differences only to be reinstated a month or two later when the artistic differences have been resolved. All of it played out on Twitter and Facebook. I'm not saying Lynch needs that, but if he is savvy, he is going to use every thing available to increase visibility.

I'm getting a bit fucking tired of this soap opera playing out in the media already. Did anyone really believe that last month's 'He's not doing it!' headline was anything more than just a news-grabbing, twitter friendly soundbite in order to drum up more hype. I'm beginning to think Oscillik was right. This thing needs to go away. I'm losing interest in it even before it's hit the TV screens. And the way Lynch is hyping it up too... he sure better deliver after all this.

yeah, I can understand that. He's totally electronic. However, what I've always liked about his stuff is that every single piece creates the illusion that the machines are just playing themselves, very organic and emotional without being cold. That sense of expansion he creates is unrivalled, I think. If you listen to Squib (Nuclear), there is so much going on in the background. It's like a complete little microcosm of electronica.

I am happy to wait. He did write this after all.

I think it would have really eased Tidal's woes if they'd offered introductory discounts rather than made a weird video with people signing some fake bill of rights and hoisting champagne glasses.

I highly doubt that artists like daft punk will release something major exclusively to such a little audience knowing all other fans would have to pirate it if the don't want to join the service. Just a rough guess: how many fans of daft punk are on tidal? 1%? 0,5? May 13th? The way things are going, Tidal might be gone by then.

Jay-Z is also pretty economical with the truth. Tidal is not one month old—it was launched by the Swedish/Norwegian company Aspiro in October 2014. Jay Z’s company Project Panther Ltd. later acquired it in March 2015. On March 23, the now-Jay Z-owned Tidal integrated WiMP, its sister service (also acquired from Aspiro), which had 597,000 total subscribers as of July 17, 2014, according toAspiro’s Q2 company presentation. Now let’s talk about those subscriber numbers. Jay Z touted Tidal’s 770,000 subscribers, but 597,000 of those came from WiMP. That means fewer than 200,000 people have subscribed to Tidal in the close to a month since that disastrous March 30 presentation. All this from a man who last year declared 'My presence is charity'. http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2013/07/29/jay-z-declares-my-presence-is-charity/ ***Those tweets are excruciating. It's like a desperate plea to be taken seriously. Does he really have that much time to spend on Twitter? Also, my cousin just moved to the upper reaches of the Amazon in search of new, fresh IDM. Look out, Autechre!

Two bonus tracks on the Japanese release.

I need to stop venting my anger about Tidal. It's not like I'm personally affected by these people.

This represents everything that is wrong with music. 'In your face' marketing to back up mediocre talent, stupid gimmicks like helmets and masks, out-of-control egos and utter greed. Also, Daft Punk should ditch the helmets. They look stupid and pretentious.
-
Yeah, that's a good point. They're so out of touch and insulated by wealth. It's not a good way to market your service. Wheeling out a selection of rich, pretentious fools who then try to convince you to sign up for a service to make them more money because they're saying they don't earn enough. That's a good business plan. This will fail HARD. Not to mention Apple have their new service in the wings, so the whole Tidal thing will be just a case of Jay-Z, Beyonce and co just flushing their investments down the crapper. No-one will even remember Tidal within six months.

Read that this morning. Whole thing sounds like a disaster. Tidal is obscene. A small, elite clique of ridiculously wealthy artists campaigning for better rights for themselves. I like the idea that one day, my (make believe) grand kids will ask me about the early days of the internet, and I can talk about it like it was the wild west. "Kids, it was amazing. All we did was steal music and stare at picture of mullets. It was weird, scary and awesome."

I was hopeful with Lynch on board, at least I would have tuned in to see if he could recreate the atmosphere. As Oscillik said, having the founding creators involved doesn't necessarily mean they will have a hit. Also, I am surprised the original cast are so eager to work with Lynch again. I was under the assumption that he left most of the cast floundering when he more or less gave up on the second season. I recall Kyle Maclachlan was very vocal years back in regards to how Lynch abandoned the project.

Have absolutely zero interest in this without David Lynch directing. That was pretty much the only way it was ever going to succeed.

Like a lot of older guys, I saw this back when it came out. Makes me realise how much TV has changed since then. The show was totally ground breaking. I was always entranced by the shot of the Varied Thrush. No idea why. It almost looked faked. Mixed emotions about them bringing it back but if anyone can make a TV show that is strange, uncomfortable and yet compulsive viewing, Lynch is the man.

Here’s my thoughts, probably won’t go down so well on a forum full of Aphex fans but there are people who perhaps can appreciate a review without making personal attacks. We’ll see. Some caveats: Firstly, if you are an utter fan-boy, probably best you don’t read it. Secondly, I switched off comments because I know there are some who just will not be able to resist the urge. It’s just a review. Nothing more. So don’t make it more. Third and finally, anything anyone negatively writes on the internet isn’t going to tarnish the reputation of Aphex Twin. His place in electronic music is secure. We all know that. I would not have wasted my time writing up a review of someone whose music I didn’t genuinely admire. http://www.jasonnewton.net/blog/2014/9/21/aphex-twin-syro-warp-records

Expect to see this legitimately used on whatever day they finally decide to go live: Yeah, but they never ever do anything about it. Same shit every time. Would be so easy to just send out the AWS link.
