  1. aye brother. to me this section really shows ae in master mode, some truly gorgeous craftsmanship here.
  2. sean walks across the stage to the table. applause. rob follows behind. again, applause (maybe this is continued applause, the crowd applauds this whole time for both brothers equally). the laptops are ready. sean presses the space bar and both screens light up. the system is activated. the rig is running. not much can be seen on stage, just the glow of two faces. british. but not "chavs." rob is drinking stella and soon is throwing up into a water bottle. sean is agitated as he had just been wrestling off stage. the beats are skipping all around. formant synthesis. the kick sounds like it has a .0000000001 millisecond delay on it which gives it that classic "ae sound." it kinda sounds like metal tubes are falling down a stairwell. occasionally the crowd hears liquid tones, more organic. rob seems to be doing not much at all but then we get a signature ae pad for approximately 80 seconds. there's so much emotion in this pad the crowd seems to be tearing up. i imagine myself in the crowd. the pad evokes memories of my grandma, a beach where the water meets the horizon at an ambiguous point, various blurred memories. i am disgruntled bc this feels too "boc." what's next, a sesame street sample? the sound of a child's laughter. sean seems to detect my exact feeling bc he presses a series of keys (i'm thinking F > Return > 5 > ^ > Return) and the beat becomes completely "fucked" and probably around 400bpm. everything is so fast it sounds like a ferrari (aka "lambo") going top speed underwater. there's a surreal atmosphere. i believe this is reverb. these guys must be using custom fx. the reverb makes it sound like there is a separate ae concert happening in the distance somewhere. you can't quite hear it but it's there, like a barely perceptible memory trying to break through. sean gets mad bc he hears someone in the audience saying "this is generative" so the set is cut short. rob seems confused and keeps typing on the keyboard. but sean has powered down the system. nothing can be heard. the lights turn back on. everyone looks around kinda like "woah wild mental wtf." the crowd shuffles out. rob is still clacking away at the keyboard. one wonders if he's trying to boot up the rig or if he's typing to his family back in the "uk."
  3. autechre - the sets 2022 by the brothers. you can tell they're using their "rig" or "the system" for these live sessions. very computer. max. msp. kenton controllers. mackie mixer. live.
  4. lots of Excellent Pads on this album ofc: https://artofvengeance.bandcamp.com/track/ottil
  5. If you “click” on that black box it calls you a “chav,” “cunt”
  6. this is definitely delightful stuff, brian has absolutely incredible skills.
  7. correct this is RDJ's twin making tracks
  8. this is so weird bc i remember 2 of these sloping syd tunes ("bags offal" and R cham tasting") and i remember i burned them to a cd (lol) and listed the artist as "RJD"* i feel this enhances the mystery considerably *i know what you're thinking but yes, it was RJD
  9. this book is unbelievably good. feel like the band is leaping from the page into real life. powerful documents of a band that really was like nothing else.
  10. the most offensive thing about all of this is that there is a vaporwave festival at all. forcing this to be a genre with artists who perform live is really corny to me. mfs are supposed to be anonymous with names in Japanese making music that is 100% just like one song from 1992 pitched down with a phaser and some delay. bitch I don’t want to see this “live” lmao
  11. this kicks ass. i love how autechre just do mixes from time to time. sean will just be like "hey doing a little mix in a few" and then he does like a 12 hour set. whenever they release new material it's like 30 hours of shit. they go on tour and absolutely melt everyone's mind. constantly churning, moving, keeping fresh and expanding. overall, feels like no one notices any of this. otoh aphex does fuck all in public. then he plays live shows which are dj sets. uses like a $500k light rig. warp goes bankrupt marketing his new release of 14 mins of music very much sounding like shit we've all heard before. feels like everyone loses their shit over this and it's a huge event. ofc i love richard and he's our dad. we all know this. but we gotta admit, the ae brothers...they spoil us with riches
  12. Haha wow I didn’t realize @cruising for burgers was cubensis, beatoven, etc @egggohan your post brings back the memory of several people I’d long forgotten. it’s strange to consider how long ago all that was. i think I joined in 2005.
  13. finally getting to see them live after first hearing them over 25 years ago. sort of strange to even think of this. new single sounds great. i appreciate this softer sound, feels good!
  14. slowdive to release their 5th album this september. 32 years after their first one. just sayin.
  15. guys..."aphex twin" .. think about it
  16. strange text posted on a twitter with 11 followers. who even found this? when you do some kind of computer stuff the text becomes a link. link sends you to reddit where a guy just posts WAPP480. is this a catalog number? warp pls. some guy from warp leaks another link. it's a download to an application. if you create a blank excel doc and name it RCHRD.exe the app converts this to another link that says "JUNE 21 2023." you have to wake up at 8:03am on June 20 and that becomes a link. it's an mp3. it's 4 seconds long. just a bunch of noise. if you open it in a spectrum analyzer it's richard's face. is this windowlicker 2? is this the famous unreleased HOUSTON TRACK? is this the unreleased BARCELONA track? is this a single track or an EP? someone posts from warp a possible tracklist: 1. BUCHLA_mix 2. ORBAN 988e03820s00sss 3. Bunny 3 4. 6.15.1.2.55.2. totally unclear if this is anything. is this music? new release immanent? someone's mom got a message on her answering machine that sounded like richard. her son posted it on youtube in mp1 format. hard to hear. sounds like he's saying "EEE PEEEE"
  17. The Doom Generation fuck me this is better than ever. got to see the remastered version in a movie theater. crowd was lmao the whole way through until the end and when it was all over everyone was dead silent and i could see people crying. a truly fun and funny movie that delivers a brutal depiction of homophobia that is sadly extremely relevant right now.
  18. jacquard causeway is an incredible track. i definitely agree it invokes a certain sense of anxiety, a kind of painful sense of fragility and disorientation. the way the overlapping miniature synth patterns dance and fleet over each other really conveys a sense of the fleeting and ephemeral. the way the individual drum parts seem to just want to do their own thing and kind of fight to stay together really underscores this tension. the first half of the track just feels like everything's coming apart and struggling to stay together. but then the big pads come in and envelope everything in this deeper layer which feels so powerful, like there really is a strength of all these little pieces coming together to form a whole. the drum tracks especially feel like they "fit" more once those big chords come in and then the whole thing has this undulating, oceanic vibe that's no longer so unsettling. at least, there is a sense of environment where some kind of forward thrust can be felt, where you're not lost in confusion. truly powerful piece of music. i don't know anything else like it.
  19. when i was like 11 or 12 i saw the movie Fire in the Sky and while i remember nothing about it i distinctly recall being disturbed by one of the abductions scenes. idk what it was but something messed with me. about the same time REM's "what's the frequency kennth" came out and something about that song kind of linked up with the feelings of discomfort from the movie. whenever i hear the REM song i instantly go back to being a kid, it's summer and i'm in my room alone, and there is a really Weird Vibe.
