  1. (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3AYamaha_DX7#FM_Synthesis)
  2. It doesn't make sense to be modulating at such a level that you actually get audible clicks from smooth sine waves, does it? I mean interesting stuff might happen but it would be supersonic anyway.
  3. Im really digging it too thief, would u mind enabling downloads or something?
  4. fuckin mint, when their raft boats are covered with monkeys at the very end......the horror the horror grip everything you can find by Popul Vuh Yea I watched it cuz of Popol Vuh but the sound was pretty shitty on the rip I got. I only have Bruder des Schattens but I really love that.
  5. Anyone here into sportswave? https://soundcloud.com/tags/sportswave
  6. http://www.electricdruid.net/index.php?page=info.pdsynthesis I think I get it, what you're actually modulating with PM is the size of the step with which you jump through the wavetable.
  7. yeah basically this, just make sure you're doing phase modulation and not frequency modulation as the feedback doesn't work as good with FM. just to clarify, most "FM" synths are actually phase modulation as it is easier to implement and has the exact same sound as FM (aside from the feedback, of course) Yea by now I've read about 10 webpages on the difference between PM and FM but I still haven't figured it out lol. It's the same, but not quite, so what exactly is the difference?
  8. This makes no fucking sense at all.
  9. Starship Troopers p. good. Aguirre, des Zorn Gottes beautiful gotta get my hands on that Popol Vuh soundtrack now.
  10. Theoretically this could be done with finite element analysis (which is what people use for modeling pressure and strain and flow inside molds and what not, all from CAD models). This guy talks about it a bit near the bottom of the page: http://www.lumanmagnum.net/physics/real_synth.html
  11. Does this count? (song starts at 4:00)
  12. I was thinking we should get some of the retro arcade/MAME guys together and have them do the same thing with VL1, i.e. copying the ROMs from the chips and emulating the hardware.
  13. Looking at pictures of the FM8 modulation matrix, it seems you can have an operator modulate itself. Anyone know how they implemented this? Just a simple buffer between output and input of an oscillator or is there fancy math involved?
  14. How do you like the Streichfett? Can you point me to a few of your tracks that use it heavily?
  15. Why have I never given RAED a proper listen, these beats are fresh as fuck. Esp. the last one.
  16. I'm a happy frog.
  17. http://flexibeatz.weebly.com/quad-klanger.html This looks nice. Bezier curve sorta thing.
  18. this is making me feel dumb i prolly just need to read up on it okay, so like, D/A converters have a LPF at 20khz or thereabouts, right? so why do you ever need to oversample beyond 2x the nyquist (i.e. ~40khz)? Usually that's because a perfect filter at 20khz is very difficult/expensive to make. If you do 40khz you can use a much shittier filter but still get good results. I don't think that really applies to synths though, with synthesis it's more a question of smoothing out the jagged edges/clicks.
  19. That's what oversampling is for.
  20. That could make sense yeah. Maybe it's not necessary to have a delay at all, for example if you have a single wave lookup table you can just move the pointer backwards just as easily as forwards. Still have no idea how it sounds tho lol.
  21. I'll have to watch Draughtsman's Contract for sure. The Pillow Book was pretty cool too btw, what with the writing on bodies and stuff. Didn´t know about that Goltzius film btw, lookin good.
  22. I once read how FM bells actually correspond with the physical workings of bells. I think this: http://www.obiwannabe.co.uk/tutorials/html/tutorial_morephones.html
