03 ALAN VEGA 13 CROSSES, 16 BLAZIN' SKULLS (EDIT)

Alan Vega achieved notoriety as half of the early electronic group Suicide, formed in 1971 with 'instrument' player Martin Rev in New York. Although routinely facing riotous audience reactions, they remain one of that decade's most confrontational and influential acts. Both musicians have experienced a renaissance since the 1990s; as well as reforming Suicide, Vega has gone on to work with Pansonic as VVV, Alex Chilton, Ric Ocasek and others. Their songs have been covered by everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Sonic Youth. "13 Crosses, 16 Blazin' Skulls" is taken from the forthcoming album Station.

Hailing from Kobe, Japan, Hirohito Ihara siphons inspiration from the emotional power of the sea, but as this track from his debut album Odori displays, he's also taken with the chromatic evocativeness of 20th century piano music, in particular Ravel's piano concertos.

08 XELA DRUNK ON SALT WATER

Xela is Walsall born John Twells, a lover of travelling, exotic instruments and Italian horror movies. While still at school, he dabbled in lo-fi guitar rock, but abandoned that approach in favour of an organic take on laptop music, which resulted in the 2003 album For Frosty Mornings And Summer Nights (Neo-Ouija). As co-owner of Type Records, Twells has just issued a new album of rusted electronica, The Dead Sea.

Kotra, a former video and Net artist, co-runs the Nexsound label and produces the Detali Zvuku festival in Kiev, while Zavoloka's chiselled electronica is enriched by her interest in collecting traditional ethnic song and music from around her homeland. Like the rest of Untitled Live, Cool Eyes" is improvised in real time; the duo are concerned with genuine shoulder to shoulder collaboration rather than distant filesharing exercises.

12 FLUORESCENT GREY A PERUVIAN SHAMAN SITS DOWN TO MAKE electronic music ON HIS LAPTOP

Record Label Records is run by Robbie Martin, from Northern California. Fluorescent Grey is his musical alter ego - his productions are usually disseminated via an underground network of online sources and CD-R releases. His work, a melting pot of custom made software, surround sound field recording, patchwork video sampling and visual synthesizer art, has previously appeared on labels like RRR and Ovenguard. He is also a notorious sonic prankster, making a fake version of an Autechre album and a rap parody of Coil.

13 DEREK BAILEY PLAY 4

By the time of his death aged 75 in December 2005, Derek Bailey's status as a grand master of free music was beyond question. As an artist who cherished his many collaborations, one of his last co-operations was recording a series of solo improvisations commissioned by David Sylvian to sing over, three of which appeared on Sylvian's 2004 album Blemish. As a tribute to Bailey, Sylvian's Samadhi Sound label has issued the session as Plays, from which this track is lifted.

Guest voidoid

I resigned myself to the fact I had missed out on this month's copy until I spotted a rogue one loose in my regular music shop. Someone had already helped themselves to the cd though. :pinch:

Anyone know where I might find a copy?
