Which is more embarassing - the fact the he arsed over at the end of his set, or the fact that the set was at the kind of show where the house DJ plays "Yeah" between acts?

Unfortunately, it seems to me it's all staged. The bulky presumably film-quality camera being pushed in his face to record his every move gives it away...

yeah but it's CASEY AFFLECK holding the camera, so it's still 50/50 on the "is it a situationist prank?" thing...

what do you mean by a "situationist prank"? Doesn't it being Casey Affleck just confirm what I was saying? The whole thing does seem like a prank. I remember reading recently about one of Joaquin's friends saying how he seemed to be going off the deep end and they were worried for him, but in light of his antics being filmed by a friend, it seems they planted that backstory to lend credence to their stunt.

Guest nene multiple assgasms

he's probably just doing it for the rush, the adaptation, and the general backwardness of the act.

Yeah but it doesnt need to be a parody for the loser brother of a famous person to be "making a documentary" - that happens all the time.

Also, Joaquin PHOENIX parodying drug-fucked actors would be in somewhat...poor...taste...

River was over-rated. He was a great actor, but not this mythical thing people have made out of him. He was no James Dean (if you compare two actors who died early in their career).

But hey Summer Phoenix is teh hot

Joaquin Phoenix's Music Career is a Hoax

Since the first second that Joaquin Phoenix revealed that he would be quitting acting to focus on his music career, it was pretty obvious that it was some sort of a joke. Even the reporter that first interviewed Phoenix didn't believe it.

Then we heard the terrible rapping and found out that brother-in-law Casey Affleck would be documenting the entire journey. Why would you document something when you're done with movies?

Entertainment Weekly is now reporting that two people close to the actor are saying that Phoenix is trying to create an Andy Kaufman-style hoax. The idea is to make fun of actors who take themselves too seriously and the media that follows their every move.

One source quoted Phoenix as saying "It's a put-on. I'm going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it."

And it seems that Phoenix will not be breaking character anytime soon. "It's an art project for him," EW quoted a source as saying. "He's going full out. He probably has told his reps that he's quit acting. Joaquin ... has a huge degree of control."

Now exactly the best kept secret, eh?

frankly the perhaps saddest most pathetic part about this is he thinks this is at the level of an 'andy kaufman-style hoax'

indeed. the backfire potential is stupefying. he's going to end up looking an even bigger plonker than if he were serious.

I wouldn't underestimate the media's sudden decision to get behind this once it's all filmed and released. A new generation has no idea who Andy Kaufman is, sadly.
