"and" indicates a fraction with a whole number, such as "seventy and two-thirds."  "Four hundred and forty-four" is an incorrect, inappropriate use of "and" in indicating the place value of the numbers.

maybe i have no idea what im talking about, but mayebe the 'two-thirds' part is what's indicating a fraction, and saying four hundred and forty four actually means 444.

Four hundred and forty four.

=400.44

Four hundred forty-four=444.0

Even math has grammar.

That's by US rules not British English.

In British English use "and" when saying numbers in the hundreds. Example: seven hundred AND twenty seven. In American English do NOT use "and" when saying numbers in the hundreds. Example: seven hundred twenty seven.
