Here is the point. If God allowed Himself to be obviously known, and did not hide His face from us, people would feel forced to obey whatever He expected. They wouldn't do so out of love, but out of a sense of coercion. They would realize how powerless they were against this omnipotent creator and basically act as one does who has a gun pointed at their head. Additionally faith would be rendered meaningless, and we are saved by grace through faith so it is very important that faith be preserved. Therefore God must remain hidden and mysterious, and work through subtlety. I am sure He would want nothing more than to be able to grow an amputee a new limb, and of course it is in His power, but it would be very difficult for the world at large to deny His existence if He went around doing obvious things like this. Just as He gave the angels beforehand, He now gives people the right to choose.

I read in The Science of God, or maybe The Hidden Face of God by Gerald Schroeder that when considering times relativity and the expansion of the universe, that the 7 day creation story could be true. I'm no physicist, like Schroeder is, so i don't really know. Still something interesting to think about.

what kind of stuff does he talk about? sounds to me like he ignores geology, geochemistry etc.

1. as an organism, humans have found many ways to create prosthetic limbs.

2. i believe that we are given something much more incredible than a replacement: we are given the chance to find out that we didn't need that limb in the first place. this is a most beautiful and powerful thing to know.

 

i'm pretty sure glasse and i are speaking from differing viewpoints, so i don't want to speak for him. but i believe that prayers are answered in their asking, and that we are given a chance to work at creating our own happiness. to me, this is the highest blessing of all.

That does not seem to be the case. In general, God seems to have no problem doing things that are obvious. Think about the Bible. Writing the Bible and having billions of copies published all over the world is obvious. So is parting the Red Sea. So is carving the Ten Commandments on stone tables. So is sending your son to earth and having him perform dozens of recorded miracles. And so on. It makes no sense for a God in hiding to incarnate himself, or to do these other obvious things. Why send your son to earth, and then write a book that talks all about his exploits, if you are trying to hide?

 

In the same way, any medical miracle that God performs today is obvious. The removal of a cancerous tumor is obvious because it is measurable. One month the tumor is visible to everyone on the X-ray, and the next month it is not. If God eliminated the tumor, then it is openly obvious to everyone who sees the X-ray. There is nothing "hidden" about removing a tumor. So, why not regenerate a leg in an equally open way? If God intervenes with cancer patients to remove cancerous tumors in response to prayers, then why wouldn't God also intervene with amputees to regenerate lost limbs?

Actually he takes into account all that current science has to offer. It's been probably 10 years since I read these books, but I remember him using a lot of biology and physics to back up his ideas (not sue on geology and the likes). They were interesting books, sadly I let people borrow them and never got them back.
