I had given up on sonic games not sucking balls, but this does look like something I'd enjoy playing.

we dont have too much to go on from that video, but i'd say sonics motion looks just wrong like those 2d mario games for the ds, and also sonic has a homing attack, just like he did in sonic 3!

definitely getting this

I'll bet they got this idea from the success of New SMB Wii

I thought this exact same thing when I read the OP.

And it's just as fuckin well. To be honest, if they were to just accurately remake all the old SNES and Sega classics in the 2D/pseudo3D style I'd be all in. Imagine playing Super Metroid but with updated graphics and stuff?

I hope this is the beginning of a huge landslide, and I think for once the industry's constant resorting to cheap cash-grab game fads might actually have a good effect.

Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, The Lost Vikings, I mean to even try to come up with even a partial list would be stupid because there are SOOO many good games out there that could do with a graphical makeover.

No but I saw the Mega Man for PSP or whatever where they remade the original in 3D. I was never a huge fan of those games though. Too difficult, too much trial and error.

Technically, this should be considered 2.5D, like the remake of Bionic Commando: ReArmed, Ultimate Ghosts N' Goblins - I think the visuals look good, but I'm a bit worried that this is appearing on WiiWare as well - does that mean that either the game is basically SD resolution on ALL three platforms (360, PS3 and Wii), or is it HD on 360/PS3, and SD on Wii?

MegaMan 9 worked on 360/PS3 due to the visuals being 8-bit to begin with - but making high-quality visuals and then limiting the resolution on platforms that can support HD is just backwards thinking, IMO.

I can't really see much of a difference between this and the other recent 2D Sonic games that came out on the Game Boy Advance, apart from the fact that Sega are cashing in on our nostalgia by calling it Sonic 4 and putting together a hilariously over-dramatic Hollywood trailer featuring tribal drumming and crescendoing orchestra stabs.

One thing... And one thing that I never liked about the 3D sonic games either... is that his legs don't move as quickly when he's in 3D.

He also seems to float a bit.

He wouldn't play them anyway, adult themes and such.

There's a new paragraph up on his website, apparently his book might be going into actual bookstores later in the year, which suggests it's sold well enough for them to think doing that's not a fucking stupid idea.
