I'm pretty sure I've seen both of them come up in virus-laden chain emails forwarded to me by my aunt right after she discovered the internet in 2007, (sent immediately after the chain message with all the sandcastle art appended to a message about how Obama is an A-rab). But I'd imagine if a work place actually buys carbon monoxide, they add something to it to give it a smell.
