hopefully enough interest on here to get this thread goin in which we can share sample IDs from mbm tunes...so i'll start with a few.

i was stoked to hear this one just recently, the car horn/tire screech/"now wait a minute" can be heard in the break down on "no purpose, no design":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz5neKocpMY

(the orb also sample this in "toxygene")

this is sampled pretty heavily in "radio mellotron":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKXQCgaHXqI

some of the spoken word stuff from this cannonball tune are in "cancer":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_HPtAIM1nA

the sample "in the grooves of this record is the sound of john cage" (from "we done") is from the intro on the john cage album "variations iv"

there are obviously so many more and a quick google search can reveal some good ones but if any one has some they'd like to share please post here.

p.s. i'm really interested in finding out where the break in "cancer" is from -- i think years ago some one may have even posted it here on teh forum.

these are awesome. i love seeing source material behind something that's been ingrained in my head for well over a decade. the MBM show i went to back in 05 was particularly enlightening in this respect--most of the visuals were the video of the source material behind a lot of subliminal sandwich. synched up perfectly too... fucking amazing show.

more plz

the only one i know off the top of my head is "that shirt -- it's a ben sherman!" in brainwashed this way/zombie/that shirt from (i think) a hard day's night. and the breathy "chanel" from the chanel commercials. sorry these are probably the most obvious ones. good thread though.

end of "Placebo"

Dudley Moore Trio - "The Millionaire" from the Bedazzled soundtrack

mainline for "Cancer"

Mike Curb Congregation - "Burning Bridges" from the Kelly's Heroes soundtrack

I like Subliminal Sandwich, but I think as a whole I prefer Actual Sounds & Voices a little more, also RUOK has quite a bit of sentimental value

got to love it whenever MBM is mentioned

Actual Sounds and Voices is a flat out masterpiece of music in general

the ones before it are anywhere between good and phenomenal, i'm definitely an ASaV advocate though, it seems to take his thing to the furthest places ever.

welcome brother. I may have posted it here before but i didn't have video proof or anything.

first time i heard it i was watching the end of Kelly's Heroes and i was like "oh wtf! nice." it's in the movie twice, at the beginning and end but it's probably heard best at the end. I really want to dub "Cancer" over that part now. Check it come in at 4:27.

I'm certain Jack took it from the actually soundtrack though seeing there's no background noise.

I remember hearing the song from which "break down and cry" on Re-Animator pt.1 was sampled playing at my local record store. Unfortunately I forgot to ask who was playing.

that happened to me also, except it was DIY store.. it's a Bowie song if I remember rightly. The full vocal is "ain't no one damn thing can make me break down and cry". Forgot what the song it is now though.

AFFIRMITIVE

which I always presumed came from Forbidden Planet.

there used to be a website from about 15 years ago which listed loads of samples for old industrial bands. i'm sure that had plenty for Satyricon and earlier. I'll need to see if I can find it on the Waybackmachine.

yeah, it's a classic little obscurity. lx used to play more of the spoken word samples from the lp when playing live between 1996-2002.

  • 9 months later...

Saw a stage performance of Marat/Sade or The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade over the weekend and that one line hit me like truck.

A sample from the 1967 film version of Marat/Sade used in "Book of Shadows"/"Do It With Soul" from the 2005 live shows.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRfIj59AqBo

guess I could have just googled the line but coming upon stuff on accident is much more fun.
