Scintilli - Missing

After years and years of build-up to the new release, something seems to be missing.

(yes, it's a rather underwhelming experience)

Stunning track! Between this and 35 summers, this is shaping up to be an absolutely lovely winter album!

Edit: for some reason the strings remind me of Ilomilo.

'Missing' sounds very summery to me. everything about the album seems summery, so far, right down to the yellow text/artwork on the website... and that picture of them in the garden, or orchard, or wherever that is... underneath that fruit tree.

I can definitely see the summery aspects of the art and pictures, but the songs i've heard thus far sound very shiny or crystalline, which makes me picture ice and mechanical plants scattered in that ice... which actually sounds very 'chre now that I think about it :sup:

hehe, It is a beautiful electronic string piece though mate.. it'll grow on you!

yeah it prolly will. i don't mind it so much now after several more listens...

it starts off sounding, almost, quite a bit like something by Mara Carlyle... with that geetar, who i like.

but just didn't expect this... where's the beats? they're 'missing', haha..... :derp:

come september come!!! (i mean,,,,the end of it)

missing must be complemented, with some "more-worked-on" tracks, that reflect Plaid's abundant talents..

"Well what can I say, back in the frame

Just another day

Turning those hits

while you're turning away

Just, playing for fun

You've lost if you've already won

Fuck a hype, fuck the game

Tell me what you want

Here come the boys from the south (Yeahhhhh)

Radio drop, audio rock

We're about to break it down (x2)

A few listens on and it sounds a little better. Not enough to justify several years of wanking and crying in the dark about Scintilli though, if it is at all representative of the whole album.

+ 1 on that!

I think it's a pretty little track, not really what I'd expect from Plaid, but very good all the same.

There are moments in there, behind the music box guitar samples and the vocals, that sound _very_ Plaid.

lets not forget that Missing is the first track and maybe that's why Plaid chose to show it before the release, as if it were the introduction to Scintilli.

well you can call me the worst fan, as i have listened to Missing just once, and barely paid attention to it, because i was doing something else and 35 Summers must have gotten just one listen as well. but i am doing this on purpose. if i played these two tracks was because i wanted to peek, but now i decided that i will resist. i always love to be surprised and because it is Plaid, that desire comes as pretty much intense and i am confident that even if it is their worst record, it will be full of wonderful music. Plaid have reached their peak in the past, and i know they won't go higher, but they are supreme masters of their craft, truly original and talented musicians, and everything they eventually create and put out deservers my full attention. i really am not worried!

The track didn't click with me yet, I was a little apprehensive, but then I remembered this:

So, I heard the album twice. It's fucking grrrrreat dudes ! Especially the first track (which sounds a bit like the band Sigur Rós) and the three last one. There is a lot of voices in the background of the music in some tracks of the album. I was first astonished but after few tracks it was ok because they never overwrite the music. A little bit of dubstep too but good dubstep not commercial dusbtep things like Skrillex & co. One track reminds me "Porn Coconut Co", another one reminds me "White's Dream" and another one sounds a bit like "Host". There is a club track too which I don't like very much, the beat is too easy for me. There are two very calm tracks too. The three last tracks are so huge !!!!! And the last one is wonderful, an incredible intro, a beautiful track and a wonderful conclusion of the track with only a piano playing the melody which is the conclusion of the album too.

So no worries!

i'm not worried about that one at all. it can't be any worse than the minimal clubby shite tBd have been churning out in recent years!

'Ol' was/is quite a clubby track, but Plaid did it well, in their own style... and using interesting sounds. even though it was a bit of a 'thumper', it's got character! so that's sort of what i expect from this new track...

speaking of tBd, i still haven't listened to the Liber thing yet. the thought of them going club and dance kind of scares me, especially after their wonderful ambient projects and the Silenced LP they have brought. really not sure if i want to try it or not

shit! really? why isn't it on there? that's weird!!

it's on the Peel Session,

but i think they called it "Cold" on there, for some reason... probably because it is (slightly) cold sounding techno..

or it could've just been a typo.
