Now That Trump's President... (not any more!)

chris hayes doesn't hold water for trump by an preference of his, to be sure. he's really restrained on his msnbc show. in his podcast Why Is This Happening he routinely cuts to the bone.- 22,233 replies

pelosi's got something on the ball. people can't count on trump being brought down, though. we need to be ready to get him voted out in a couple years.- 22,233 replies

Now That Trump's President... (not any more!)

during the 2016 campaign i thought the media could have annihilated trump at any point, but he was good for their ratings. they were covering his shit all the time because it got ratings, and they would cover only one thing at a time. whatever the latest thing was. they never did a comprehensive overview, listing all the reasons why he was a ridiculous choice for a president. they only just covered that one last thing, so all the not-really-paying-attention voters would only see a few isolated topics, and they may fall for trump's pitches, amplified by the incredible coverage and viewership. the play was always to have the talking heads debate "is trump right" so that was the message always being put forward, when, really, they knew trump was always full of shit. imagine if the media had never treated him as a tenable president. the media has a lot of weight in elections. they weren't trying to get him in there, but they were trying to keep him in the running. they thought he was going to lose the general election, but then everyone was surprised by the historic discrepancies between polling-based projections and vote counts.- 22,233 replies

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/mueller-must-be-trusted-say-gop-taskforce-leaders-in-ending-doj-investigation remember how the gop-controlled house was investigating the investigators, in regard to Mueller, and in regard to how the FBI let Hillary off without charges? how does this not look like cockroaches scattering after the mat has been lifted? i.e., now that they're losing control of the house. look at the timing. immediately before the democrats take control of the house, the gop-controlled house committees end their investigations into the investigators, which were serving the interests of republicans and trump. if these investigations had a sound basis, why not let the democrats take them over and then attack them for mishandling, if they don't handle them appropriately? this is a plain demonstration of their consciousness of having been acting in bad faith when pursuing prosecution of FBI officials and Hillary Clinton. as another point of interest, it seems like they are spooked. they are going way out of their way to be clear that they definitely were not trying to obstruct justice. they're explicitly stating Mueller's report needs to be trusted! there is a reason why they are saying things now to whitewash the appearance of having undermined Mueller.- 22,233 replies

and this was a great thread, touches on the day-to-day parts of the work as well as the big moments. wasn't aware of this mission's current goals either, looking forward to seeing what they see :) the photos that new horizons got of pluto and charon were some of the most stunning space photos i've seen. the closest approach to ultima thule will be 3,500 km. the closest approach to pluto was 12,500 km. so, we may get really good, close-up shots of a gnarly kuiper belt object. hopefully it goes well.

which end? Trump can launch nuclear weapons whenever he wants, with or without Mattis Yes, that's the guy who just resigned in protest, saying in his resignation letter that the president does not believe in standing by our allies or standing up against adversarial powers.- 22,233 replies
